Sorry, but I don't think either of these tags fit all content very
well. I think we'd need something like PG-13 or PG-16. I just think
that David's description of Mature and Adult are too similar, which is
 why I mentioned R and X (R is violence/nudity, X is porn). Neither
apply to Kitkast, which is why I suggested something like PG-13 and
PG-16... it contains sexual themes, not graphics.

Yes I have.

I wasn't clear enough. My apologies.

That law should be struck down and openly defied whenever possible.

Imposing some sort of bullshit ratings system on yourself is
admitting that the freaks who advocate such censorship are correct.

Why? Because you're buying into the bullshit idea that images and

It's ultimately a denial of thought.

everyone understands that videoblogigng is just like text blogging.
lots of bad text blogs that no one wants to vsiits.

 why would videoblogs be different?

 Vlogging International Manifesto

Since we refuse (say no to) the obviousnesses of formatted cultures,
the domination of cultural patterns and the distorted connivence game
 between all the authorities,
since we yearn for more solidarity in the representation of the world
and its mutations, we — voluntary citizens —, pioneers of the new
territories, artists, poets of our days and historians of our
emotions, accountable for our viewpoints and thoughts, we claim our
collective and shared place as major actors of the reflection of our
societies. We commit ourselves to watering the fields of knowledge
and history with a poetry grown in our daily life.
Through solidarity, skills transfer, the capitalization of
technologies, the pooling of our resources and a deep longing to
attest for the lives we live, the groups we belong to, our tribes,
our differences and everything which gathers us in a free and deeply
 human movement.
Peacefully armed with our only video cameras and ourstill fresh will
to be where there is never anybody, neither major TV company nor
producers of stolen images for the benefit of profitable aims or the
shade, we will only be present in the movement of our lives to
reinvent art and the material for the media of the new worlds. All
united, all media, to multiply our glances and our thoughts, the
exchanges and confrontations of ideas in the respect of the others,
of their culture and their perception of a one and only one earth.

Re: [videoblogging] hi all new vlogger intro

2005-12-15 Thread Christopher Weagel

Philosophically there seems to be two schools of thought; that which targets a Vlog being essentially a personal brief telecast - and those that feel it shouldn't be that structured . I presume good taste and easy "Viewability" are the guide posts I should try and work within.NO!That's a false bullshit LIE! It's a false choice!Do not fall into that trap!I'm so goddamned sick of it.Most of the stuff vlogged with an eye towards so-called PROFESSIONALISM is shit. Most of the stuff vlogged with an eye towards so-called PERSONAL aim is shit.Just like any other human endeavor. The better questions are, How Much Life, How much Soul is being communicated? How is this medium being used in a unique way? Is what being communicated strengthened or weakened by a given presentation? What meaning is added because of such presentation?Chris Weagelwww.human-dog.com

I find it odd that you've misinterpretted what I said. I never said
they'd be on my list of six.

It amuses me even more that you've reinterpretted the context
of interesting vlogs, in that I was referring to what the vlog
viewing majority consider interesting, and not myself specifically.

As to how interesting I personally find The 05 Project and Josh
Leo, depends on whether you mean a) generically interesting, or b)
interesting from a vlog theoretics point of view, two of many
criteria I use when considering which vlogs to watch. My opinion on
which I probably wouldn't want to give in a public forum.

Of course the title of the article was The best of the rest, so in
actual fact it is probably proposing that Steve Garfield is THE most
interesting vlog. Think through that one.

Reading between your lines, it sounds like we actually agree.

Who would be on your list of six must-see video blogs?

The great thing about video podcasting is that it can scale to
every level. From tiny video diaries to heavily produced shows.
You decide which level you're going to play at.

You rebuke Indie film -- and sure a lot of it is self-absorbed
claptrap, but does that mean you only accept summer blockbusters as
truly great cinema? Or do you reject all films?

What I'm describing is way for people like me who want to be in
show business. This is how to get to the business part using
these tools. To recoup $150,000 you need to sell less than 10,000
DVDs. And with the other revenue models you should be able to
break even even if it's not a hit, and be comfortable if it does
 strike a chord.

Thanks for the tutorial.

On Nov 4, 2005, at 10:48 AM, Kent Bye wrote:

Weagel/Andreas not quite. SANDY FOUND AN EASY ARCHIVE SOLUTION!
 4 Steps nonetheless!

 Chris and Andreas,
The following URL is NOT an RSS feed:
 http://www.human-dog.com/lab/?page_id=165

It's a webpage where you have to sit and manually download each video.
It's a nice way to see an archive, but not quite what I was asking.
I'm looking for an automatic way to download all of these videos
 with an
 aggregator.
Am I missing the RSS feed here from this page?
I still don't see any way to plug a URL into either iTunes and FireANT
and do a direct download of all of these videos.

HOW TO GENERATE AN XML FEED FOR A MONTH'S WORTH OF ARCHIVES IN FOUR
 STEPS!
It appears as though Marcus Sandy has actually figured out a great
workaround solution for how to plug in one URL into webjay.com and
 have
a way to generate an XML URL that can be used in iTunes or to
 download a
 month's worth of archives.

Try plugging these two XML urls into iTunes:
 http://webjay.org/podcast/xml/playthispage/apperceptions3aoctober2005

 http://webjay.org/by/playthispage/thedigitaldojo3aoctober2005.xml

 It works! AWESOME!

Now Marcus, I've been able to successfully duplicate what you've done,
 and it's really quite simple.

 STEP 1
Take an archive URL from either typepad or blogger like
 http://apperceive.blogs.com/apperceive/2005/10/index.html
 http://ryanedit.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_ryanedit_archive.html

 STEP 2
Replace : with %3A so that the URLs look like:
 http%3A//apperceive.blogs.com/apperceive/2005/10/index.html
 http%3A//ryanedit.blogspot.com/2005_05_01_ryanedit_archive.html

 STEP 3
Add http://webjay.org/playthispage?url=; to the begging of the URLS

 STEP 4
Browse to the URL, right click on Podcast RSS and copy the XML Feed
 from named Podcast RSS
Or click on Podcast RSS button and highlight the URL following:
 Copy
 this link into your reader:

 FOR
 http://webjay.org/playthispage?url=http%3A//apperceive.blogs.com/
 apperceive/2005/10/index.html

 Podcast RSS =
 http://webjay.org/by/playthispage/apperceptions3aoctober2005.xml

 FOR
 http://webjay.org/playthispage?url=http%3A//ryanedit.blogspot.com/
 2005_05_01_ryanedit_archive.html

 Podcast RSS =
 http://webjay.org/by/playthispage/ryanne5c27svideoblog2823229.xml

Now I can plug this XML Podcast RSS feed that webjay generates into
iTunes or the Windows version of FireANT and BAM! -- you can now
download a month's worth of archives.

 Brilliant.
 Thank you so much Marcus!

See, I knew there had to be a simple solution to this.

Now for Josh Kinberg and the FireANT team: I'd *really love* for
 the Mac
version to be able to download more than the first two videos in a
 feed.
The windows version can do it, but not the Mac. It'd be great to be
able to use these webjay-generated archive feeds to download a whole
month's worth of videos on my Mac. Hopefully this can get on your
 radar
screen if it isn't already. :)

And Josh, the atom spec may indeed support this as well, but I was
waiting for a much simpler solution like this that didn't depend on a
 wider adoption for atom.

While I have monthy archives like any blog at the lab, I've also set
up these pages:

2004 Archive
http://www.human-dog.com/lab/?page_id=165

2005 Archive

That work pretty well in laying out only the videoblogs in reverse
chronological order.

I've considered rerunning older posts in the main human dog feed, and
I may do that. I may also set up a separate feed of just older material.

Additionally, all the videos on human dog will eventually have a

That work pretty well in laying out only the videoblogs in reverse

I've considered rerunning older posts in the main human dog feed, and
I may do that. I may also set up a separate feed of just older

Additionally, all the videos on human dog will eventually have a

I think Apple, for a short time, will actually replace you 5G ipod
for free without any questions.

That's what I've been reading on some of the apple sites.

Besides, it's probably covered under the 90 day warranty.

Richard makes a lot of great points in his email, especially the above.

I'm still waiting for that feature, at least as a selectable option, to
return to FireANT.

I might be wrong, but I think someone told me it was removed due to
conflicts with WMV and other file types when combined in a playlist.

Having an easier way to switch screen resolutions or something akin to
it when switching between a computer monitor and TV screen, other than
going through a cumbersome path to system prefs, would clear up the
problem of being able to read anything on a TV and still have enough
screen room to do anything worthwhile.

Someone at Apple, MAKE THIS NOW. DO IT. Stop wasting time on the new

ALSO: When you are done with that send me $60,000 USD and a slurpee.

Re: [videoblogging] What's the True Potential of the Videoblogging Community???

2005-09-05 Thread Christopher Weagel
I second what Quirk says here.

This whole disaster has demonstrated once again how worthless the mainstream media is.
Things were so bad on the ground in NO that even FOX news reporters were calling bullshit on the scumfucks like bill oreilly and sean hannity back in the studio trying to put the bullshit Bushco spin on things.

We also saw brief clips of CNN reporters and others pointing out the utter fraud that is America. Notice this only came about
when they were out in the midst of hell watching dead bodies getting eaten by rats, as that professional empty suit Anderson Cooper put it.
Only when it gets to the very verge of all-out apocalypse can the mainstream media begin to call it like it is.

Their behavior during this exposes their utter dereliction of responsibility over the last 5 years, and longer-- really the last 24 years since this nightmare of conservatism began destroying the united states.

Look for these tiny cracks in the electronic berlin wall that is the mainstream media to begin sealing immediately as the Military/industrial/corporate/conservo-complex's PROPAGANDA machine spins into full gear.

The censoring of Kayne West's brilliant comments when that show reaired on the west coast is typical of what to expect.
Watch that clip again. Madge Weinstein summed it up when she deemed it, the most brilliant moment of TV in the last ten years.
In that clip you got to see reality, as spoken bravely by West, as contrasted with the mainstream media bullshit denial of reality as offered by the robotic mike myers.

That moment was unbelievable truth. So naturally that has to be smashed.

Little of this will matter, though, as the vast majority of the population has been so conditioned by lifetimes of 24/7 propaganda, that they will deny the very truth available to them if they just open their eyes.

Some will see, but most won't.
I hope I'm wrong.

If people seek out alternative news sources, like online and podcasts and vlogs, then maybe something will change.
(Even that though is being used by zombie followers of this fucked up system. Most people are only going to seek out and watch that which reconfirms their already held beliefs.)

But right now, we're nowhere near that level of people watching. And those that are watching, are focusing on garbage that's little more than warmed over entertainment tonight.

To see some of the stuff I'm talking about, please visit:

They don't seem to have an RSS feed, but so what.

Also, please listen to madgeweinstein, who's work over the last few months in AUDIO puts to shame all of us goofing around in VLOG-o-Land: www.yeastradio.com

Re: [videoblogging] Vlogs As Art

2005-07-20 Thread Christopher Weagel
Anne

yeah I view my work as art.

I view videoblogging as a separate channel, from traditional movie making and television, to get my work out distributed.

Much of my content would never find an outlet in those areas.

I spend a lot of time going beyond just turning on the camera and talking (not that such things can't be art).
Editing, planning, writing, etc.

Sometimes lots of that, sometimes little.

Look around www.human-dog.com, there are many styles involved in the various approaches.

There are many approaches contained within the lab videos:
http://www.human-dog.com/lab

I think of video in a videoblog structure as equal to anything I might find in a gallery or theatre or on TV as far legitimacy.

production/distribution, or is it a bit of both? If a televison show
is offered exclusively online, is it a vlog?

I'm curious as to how many here view their vlogs as art. Do you
consider what you do art? would you be interested in showing your
 vlogs in an art context?

I'm not much for tech talk but I do love to talk about the theoretical
 implications of vlogging. Any thoughts?
