You can also try buying a clamp... I have one but don't use it very
often. It screws into the bottom of the camera and then can be
secured iside your car. It's probably the safest way to do it.

Hi there,

I am not sure about a dashboard, but putting it on a
tripod usually works in moving vehicles. You will have
to give it a test run of course. I suppose you could
also do the justin thing and tape it to your body!

to... well, other things. Good luck, your project sounds really cool.

THere are suction-based camera mounts available, if you want to attach
it to th windscreen, other window, or even external bodywork.

For mounting camera's on dashboards, I guess I would suggest using a
little tiny tripod that is attached to a beadbag. The nice thing
about a bean bag is that it conforms to what it sits on, and IF you
replace the beans (or whatever) with steel shot, then it will be heavy
enough to actually stay where you put it, without doing permanent
damage to the dash. Also it allows you to move it to the seat, or
wherever. It also comes in very handy when you are doing an interview
at a table that you want to have the camera stable but not so hard to
setup. I suggest a tripod simply because you want to the ability to
adjust the angle of shooting.

So a litte bitty tripod - very short - you mostly want the head,
mounted to a steelshot bag.

have fun!

1. The driver should not be the camera person. ;-)

2. Pre-plan everything in case the milk of human kindness does not
bring up logging for the night. Unless you've got the RV.

3. I'm thinking if you are going to post 365 days you are gonna want
to know every free wi-fi, Internet cafe and library on you trip around
the country. Kinko's will kill your budget if you don't know where the
free Internet resources are in a community.

4. Get to know your camcorder really well.

5. Have more than one. Maybe a good DV camcorder for the long
interviews and something like the http://tinyurl.com/3xjxe6 camcorder
for taking around town showing videos of the outdoors sights without
drawing attention to the camcorder. It's good for daylight stuff and
you can plug it into your laptop easy.

I have to put myself to bed but I'll stew on it. I'm sure others will
pipe in as well.
