[Videolib] Replacement Cost Policy
Dear Collective Mind, We want to set a default amount for replacement cost for our AV. I need to know if you have such a policy and if you do what is your default amount. We used to have the amount the same as the cost of the item. But we have been faced with a lot of items never returned. Students have paid the replacement cost in order to register and we ended up with some items no longer available or much more expensive than when we bought them. Thanks. Re: [Videolib] Replacement Cost Policy
At Wake Forest we have a standard replacement cost for videos and DVDs of $50. Granted, many of the DVDs we lend cost more than $50, but many more cost less since we have a large collection of feature films. So that seemed to be a good acceptable replacement cost. At UST we have a $250 replacement cost. I offer negotiation when it is a cheaper title and the student/faculty can buy me the exact same title from the place I recommend and they bring it to me __ Cindy Badilla-Meléndez, M.L.I.S Media/Music Resources Librarian O'Shaughnessy-Frey Library, University of St. Thomas Mail #5004, 2115 Summit Ave, St Paul, MN 55105 phone (651) 962-5464 fax (651) 962-5406 From: videolib-boun...@lists.berkeley.edu [videolib-boun...@lists.berkeley.edu] on behalf of Lock, Mary Beth [loc...@wfu.edu] Sent: Wednesday, February 25, 2015 11:35 AM To: videolib@lists.berkeley.edu Subject: Re: [Videolib] Replacement Cost Policy At Wake Forest we have a standard replacement cost for videos and DVDs of $50. Re: [Videolib] Replacement Cost Policy
Our default is $200. Plus $10 late fees and $10 processing fee. Automatically bills at 7 days overdue. When the student returns it, the $200 goes away, they pay $20. (Faculty and staff don't have to pay late fees). If lost and patron reports it to us, we charge actual replacement cost up to the $200 plus $10 processing fee. If they tell us immediately, we waive the late fee. Most of the time lost DVD is a feature film available for $15 on Amazon. If item is found and returned within 6 months, they get a refund minus the $10 processing fee. Re: [Videolib] Replacement Cost Policy
AT NYU, we have a default replacement cost of $250.00 for our video collection. I arrange to have a report generated just before the video goes to billed-as-lost (10 days from due date) where I will adjust the replacement price upwards or down, depending upon actual replacement cost. If the patron declares the video as lost, the default remains at $250.00. (We need this amount to cover our truly expensive, and for private individuals, otherwise unobtainable, video titles. It seems to get most of those back.) Michael Gaffney Video Collections Assoc.
