Re: new aftershotz blues2
Hi Andy, I contacted Aftershokz and they said that the online documentation was not yet ready. I do not know anything about how to configure the speech. For people who are having drop-out issues, I always carry my phone in my left front jeans pocket and don't have any drop-out with either the Bluez or Bluez 2. Also, if you are looking for a fabulous bluetooth headphone for music, I love the Bose AE2W over the ear headphones. They sound wonderful at least to me. Headphones are very subjective. It is always better to listen before buying if you can. I bought my first set about a year ago, and had to get a replacement after a few months when I lost audio on one side. With the second set, the head band actually started falling apart. This happened just around the time that the new ones came out. I didn’t request another replacement. I just bought the new ones. I must say though that there customer service is great. Plus, sound bleed is a huge problem. When I emailed sa...@aftershokz.com to ask about upgrading to the upcoming second-generation, they offered a free replacement. In the Bluez 2, the bluetooth antenna was moved forward. This should help to mitigate the issues with loss of connectivity. Robert, When going through the FAQs on the Aftershokz site, in reference to the Bluez 2, it was said that the amount of spoken feedback you can get is configurable, but it didn't say how to configure it. Also, I was unable to find a user guide for the Bluez 2. Perhaps this is because they are so new. Do you know anything about how the spoken output can be configured? Also, with the original Bluez, the battery charge status was on the status bar on the iPhone. I do not see it with the Bluez 2. If I was sitting next to someone in a car or on a bus, they could hear what I was hearing. The new ones seem to be a little more sturdily constructed. The controls are on the right side, as opposed to the back, so they are more easily reached, and I think that this design puts less stress on the headband. The audio quality is much improved. They say that the bluetooth antenna has been moved forward, so you shouldn't get the disconnects that some complained about in the past. So far, I would definitely give it a thumbs up. Thanks I'll think about this. I mostly consider it an annoyance, and I'm not sure it's worth asking for a replacement. The noise bleed doesn't bother me much. I knew what I was getting when I ordered the Bluez, and I wonder how much of this can be addressed, given the technology being used. I still consider myself a happy Bluez customer. Thanks for the tip though, and I'm interested to keep hearing from those who've gotten the Bluez 2 and how these issues have been addressed. BTW, these are the most comfortable headphones I think I've ever used. I'd hate to lose that in an upgrade to a new model. Except for when I'm listening to music and I want the high fidelity, these are my go to headphones to use with the iPhone, even over wired ear buds. Re: new aftershotz blues2
I have the original Bluez, which I just purchased a few months ago. I agree with the assessment below. I do have speech on my Bluez, so apparently this feature was added to the original Bluez at some point. The only minor nuisance I have with the Bluez is that the bluetooth reception will sometimes get flaky. I can usually fix this by just adjusting where my iPhone is in relationship to my Bluez headphones. I think it was David who explained how the bluetooth reception can be effected by the water in your body. Hopefully this has been addressed in the Bluez 2. I can't wait to check out the Bluez 2, but I'll be happily using the original Bluez for a little while yet. I find them comfortable and for what I use them for, to me they sound great. The new Bluez 2 are nicely designed with the headband smaller because the controls are on the right side and not in the head band on the back. I like the sound of the Bluez 2 but they do have more bass and they vibrate my cheek bones more than the original Bluez do. I am not finding them quite as comfortable as the original Bluez model. They hurt my right ear after wearing them for an hour or more. This isn't terrible and I just adjust them once in awhile to ease the discomfort. The new Bluez 2 do have speech built-in. The voice is called Audrey. It is a very clear voice. It tells you when the headset is in pairing mode and it tells you battery status. When no audio is playing, pressing one of the volume buttons will report battery status. When the battery is needing a charge, Audrey says "charge me." This comes as a bit of a surprise when listening to spoken audio and suddenly hear charge me. The volume and on/off buttons are very small and take a bit of searching to find them. The mini USB port is between the volume button and the power button. I do like the Bluez 2 and the addition of speech is nice. I think speech appeared in later versions of the original Bluez but mine didn't have it. I think the construction of the Bluez 2 is very solid. I am not at all sorry that I purchased them. I'll get my set next week. I, too, have the original model right now, and I experienced the sound bleed and constant signal problems. My unit seems to hold up well, but then again I've only had it since Christmas 2013. Once I get my new ones, I plan to review them, including a comparison to the first generation. I have them, and i started with the original model. i thought those were rather flimsily constructed, and I actually went through two sets.
