Re: Printer woes

I had can't get a printer to show in my printer list. I reinstalled
software but no luck. Help says all I have to do is select the one I
want but if it's not there?
Ihave a G4 running OSX .2.1
any suggestions?

I actually deleted the one I had cos when it printed it would stop at
printing page 0 of 1
worked sometimes but not other times and was getting worse so I decided
to delete it and reinstall but have been foiled :(


You neglected to mention what sort of printer it is, and which 
software you installed.

Entourage keeps asking for passwords for my mail account, even though I
entered them in accounts, they disappear. I tried to access the keychain
but that is locked even tho I'm logged in. I tried using keychain firstaid,
but that says it can't open key chain either. Anybody got a clue?


You could always try deleting your keychain and creating a new one. 
This assumes of course that you can remember all the passwords in it!


Keychains are in ~/Library/Keychains folder.

If your keychain password is the same as your login password the 
keychain should be unlocked automatically when you login.


If you've installed the old PGP beta I've got a sneaking suspicion 
that it interacts poorly with the Keychain at the moment, so you 
might want to update the PGP beta.

Video CD's in OSX10.2.2

Hi Guys,
I can't play my Video CD's in Quicktime 6.0.2 OSX10.2.2.
The CD's are ISO 9660.
I've searched the Knowledge Base  found the below answer :-)
Does this mean I will have to boot into OS9 every time I want to play 
my iMovies that I've burn't to VCD's using Toast Titanium ?

Mac OS X's Quicktime can not play VCDs natively like OS 9's can. You'll 
need either VideoLAN (freeware) or MacVCD X (shareware).

Mounting SCSI devices in OSX

I have two SCSI peripherals, a UMAX Astra 1220S scanner and a LaCie 
12-10-32 CD writer, running from an ADAPTEC SCSI card on a G4/400 
with OSX 10.2.2. They perform fine in OSX with VueScan for the 
scanner and Toast Titanium for the CD burner.
As they are used only intermittently, I normally leave them powered 
off except when I am going to need them. If they are powered on at 
startup, then they are either or both recognised, mount and work 
normally. If powered on after startup, however, they are not 
recognised and I am unable to make the bus rescan to find them. 
Putting the system to sleep and then reawakening does not work. In 
OS9 SCSI probe performed this function but as far as I can find there 
is not an OSX version, nor will it work in Classic. Having to 
restart to bring up the scanner or CD writer is not the end of the 
world but very inconvenient.
Has anyone out there got a solution to this, please?

Correct. This is how SCSI is meant to work. Peripherals were never 
meant to come and go dynamically from the SCSI bus.


FireWire and USB, on the other hand, are bus technologies which were 
designed to be dynamically reconfigurable.

Hi Bill,

1) If you are on a Mac, then you would generally not be infected by 
Klez, nor most other viruses/worms

2) This email got to you by selective randomness. If you want more 
specific information how, email me back or read some of the 
antivirus websites about how the new strain of viruses work

3) The best action to take when receiving *anything* that is 
unwanted, or you are unsure of, is to delete it.

4) It is extremely unlikely that you, unless of course you
forward them the email, will pass anything unwanted on to 
pc/mac/other users

the $10 fee and Apple Communications sounds more like it is a part of
Apple Computers than Apple Carpet Cleaning. Maybe some ex-Microsoft lawyers
are now working for Apple Computer.
But you know what they say about lawyers - 99% of them give the rest a bad
name.
