Hello Peter,

I was not going to post, but have decided to. If I get 'shot down' because of
my reply … so be it ;-)
I was shocked when I read your reply to Glenn Walker, and you did not say
anything about the attachment or size of the attachment.

You are the President of WAMUG and how many times has it been brought to
everyone's attention that WAMUG Mailing List does NOT allow attachments.
Especially an attachment of this size 3.5MB TIFF File!

A lot of us (I for one) would have received the 3.5MB email on our iPhones in a
3G Zone, not on our Wi-Fi Networks.
If everyone on WAMUG decided to send attachments of this size … our Data Limit
wouldn't last the month.

Regards,
Ronni

What version of Safari are you using? The most recent version of Community
Toolbar seems to claim compatibility with Safari 4 but there;s no mention of
Safari 5. If you have recently upgraded Safari to v5 this could be the problem.

Be careful with this, and take it under advisement. What this simply means is
that that capability of multiple burning sessions is provided by the DVD+R
protocols, but you are still dependent on the software you use to make that
happen. For example, if you create a Burn Folder in the Finder, copy some items
to it, and then burn that folder to a DVD+R disc, the
disc WILL BE FINALISED. There is no way to tell Finder to burn in sessions.

On the other hand, if you create an editable Disk Image using Disk Utility, you
do have an option to leave the image re-writeable once burnt the first time,
but this is not a straightforward procedure. It requires some care. Bear in
mind also that an unfinalised DVD may not be useable in other devices until it
has been finalised.

By far the easiest way to deal with multi-sessions burns is to use software
which is designed for the purpose, the best example of course being Roxio's
Toast. There are other reasonable shareware titles available as well.

Just be aware that just because DVD+R allows the disc to be recorded multiple
times, there is no guarantee that this will be the case following a standard
burn session.

G'day Ronni.

I've just had a look at the archives. I didn't even know that ability existed -
obviously I've never scrolled down that far. I agree with you in that it should
not be there unless we want it or not at all.

I can't offer any helpful solution but I'll bring it up at the committee
meeting next week anyway.

(I just tested an archive of mine and pressed the reply button and all my email
addresses came up including my 'secret' one. I'm assuming it was only because I
opened it on my iMac and it just added the extra addresses from Address Book
in. What a helpful little iMac it is!!)

Final Cut Express versions

2010-06-10 Thread Severin Crisp

I have Final cut Express v 4.0 according to Get Info and I believe
that is correct. Version Tracker Pro, to which I subscribe agrees
with this but notes the update v 4.0.1
Software Update tells me everything is up to date and nowhere on the
Apple site can I find a 4.0 to 4.0.1 download. The apparent update
download link on the FCE page merely tells me how to do a check
through Software Update. I have no recollection of performing this
update in the past and VT Pro seems to have got this right, though it
gets some versions wrong (it insists Transmit 4.0.4 is 3.7 for example).
Has anyone any comments or experience here. This arises from a long
overdue cleanup/checkup of my Appliations/Utilities folders.

Re: How to stop my email address from being public on WAMUG Mailing List Archives?

2010-06-10 Thread Susan Hastings

Hi, it seems we all have our email addresses available to anyone on the
Internet through the WAMUG archives. Most online forums that I use only allow
access to participants' user names, and participants have a choice of being
contactable via email. I'm not sure that anything can be done on to ensure
greater privacy on this kind of email list. Cheers, Susan

 Hello People,

I have been receiving a lot of requests lately for my Tutorials from
people who are not members of WAMUG mailing list, and I wondered how they
all know about my Tutorials & have my email address?
They are googling and getting my information from the WAMUG Mailing List
 Archives.

At the bottom of a message on the Archives is "Reply via email to" & name
 of the sender.
How can I make my email address 'Private' (not to show) in the Archives,
so if people want my Tutorials or Support Help, they would need to go
through WAMUG Mailing List? … NOT directly to me!

This is becoming a problem for me, as 'Offlist" is reserved for my
clients. I don't have time to respond to all these people that are
'fleecing' my email address from WAMUG. Google is fast becoming "Not My
 Friend" ;-)

Re: Pages/Repeat formatting

2010-06-10 Thread Maria Obiageli Chukwu-Ike
Hi Stuart,
I believe you are asking for the equivalent of Apple/Y and
Apple Z in pages?

The answer is
Command + Z
Shift + Command + Z

Re: How to stop my email address from being public on WAMUG Mailing List Archives?

2010-06-10 Thread Ronda Brown

Hi Shay & Nicholas,

Thanks for your replies.

The emails are not coming from WAMUG Mailing List Members. They are coming from
people who have used Google to search on a subject, and have been directed to
my replies on the WAMUG Archives.
Where they then read my answers to questions on WAMUG Subjects and click 'reply
via email'.

I do have email responses that I reply with, as below:

1. “I’m sorry but I am unable to help you at this time.
I am currently busy with Clients.
Please post your question to WAMUG Mailing List for a quicker response.”

2. "Thank you for emailing me, but unfortunately I don't answer questions from
WAMUG “off list” anymore, as time does not permit me to.
If you would like this followed up then please send it to the list.
Thanks."

3. “I give my time to WAMUG Mailing List ‘free’.
If you wish me to answer ‘off list’ there will be a charge for my time,
which is *(based on 20 minute blocks) $30.”

I don't need or want anymore Clients! I'm too busy looking after the Clients I
have and doing as much as I possibly can on WAMUG Mailing List.

Cheers,
Ronni

Re: How to stop my email address from being public on WAMUG Mailing List Archives?

2010-06-10 Thread Shay Telfer

Perhaps add a message to the fact that you don't answer personal queries next
to your name in your e-mail signature?

Alternatively set up a keyboard macro to auto-reply referring them back to the
mailing list.

Or tell them your hourly e-mail consultation rate and ask if they'd like to
continue.

Have fun,
Shay
