Re: [WISPA] Fiber On Air (gigabit wireless)
Well, sure, it's possible, as long as you are able to use levels of laser power that would be really unfriendly to anyone unlucky enough to step in front of it. You can bounce laser signals off the reflector left on the moon, so I don't think 35 miles would be that much of a challenge :) Now, could a civilian deploy something with this range at a reasonable bandwidth in a location where faces might conceivable intercept the beam? I'm guessing not so much... On Wed, Oct 26, 2011 at 1:56 PM, Josh Luthman wrote: > I talked with someone Friday that said he had a laser link doing 35 > miles. I talked with someone Friday that said he had a laser link doing 35 miles. It was military or medical, something "high up". Is this possible? Re: [WISPA] Fiber On Air (gigabit wireless)
Where will the link be located? 80GHz is unlicensed in some parts of the world. In the US, BridgeWave includes the 80GHz license with the radio, so that shouldn't affect the purchasing decision. Taking my vendor hat off, I would avoid FSO if you can. Very susceptible to changes in the environment, low MTBF, twist/sway is a major concern. If you got any questions - feel free to ask off or onlist. The limit is based on O2 absorption. It is hard limit, not hardware or software based but atmospheric attenuation based. 2.5km is usually a slam dunk for 80GHz.
