RE: Witango-Talk: [OT] IQ test

2004-07-14 Thread Scott Cadillac
Hi Ben,

I only took this particular test once, but this isn't the first IQ test I
ever took.

A couple years I did another similar test online and got 139.

And then when I was 5 years old my mother took me to see some special doctor
because everybody thought there was something wrong with me. I hadn't spoken
a word up to this point in life.

After lots of tests that I remember being quite fun, the doctor said I had
an IQ of 150+. After that I decided it was worth talking to people.

By the way, I have a grade 9 education and the only formal Programming
training I have is a 3-day Tango course taught by Ian Daniels about 5-6
years ago. I'm entirely self-taught.

So, I think this means we either get dumber as we get older, or these test
are completely unreliable.

Interesting, but I wouldn't read to much into them

Silly fun! Except for the
Gates reference...
Your IQ score is 140 This number
is based on a scientific formula that compares how many questions you answered
correctly on the Classic IQ Test relative to others. Your Intellectual
Type is Facts Curator. This means you are highly intelligent and have
picked up an impressive and unique collection of facts and figures over the

I think I took this
some time back scored about the same thing. I was wondering if it
was a timed test, which could affect the scores (I only get interrupted a
half-dozen times on any given task). I guess I could try again tonight
from home see how it compares, it would be much speedier the 2nd time
around. I know I remembered the general solution (although not the
specific answer) to several problems from the last time.

I took standard IQ
tests when I was a kid. They're MUCH more extensive (several hours).
And I agree with Mike that they don't really mean much except for a general
level of a few specific skills. There's actually a good book on that subject that explains how
IQ tests were developed and how they've been misused and misinterpreted:
The Mismeasure of Man by Stephen Jay Gould.

I dunno about the descriptions
- they strike me as the sort of generic descriptions that apply to most anyone,
much like astrology horoscopes and such.

But it was a nice break for a bit, being that I
remembered how to do most of the difficult ones.
;^D

I'm just having fun.

When I was in the third grade my teacher thought I had a reading
problem. What they failed to take into account was that my parents were
divorcing at this time. So they sent me to Summer School for reading. I took
the initial tests and they sent me home and said I had no problem reading, I
was reading at grade level 15.

I took more of the tests
and they said

Ben, based on your career personality, the Right Job for you is an:

  Architect

  Your
  runner-up jobs are:

   Psychologist

   Computer
   systems analyst
   Chemist
   Airplane
   pilot
   Flight
   engineer
   Veterinarian

At least it had one of the runners up with the word computer in it ;-)
