This morning at around 8:30 there was a single Black Vulture at the Tompkins
County recycling center (there may have been others as there was a tree of

I was in the front yard doing yardwork, looked up, and noted a small kettle
of vultures over the house. Called the wife out. I was counting them

west of the mall, I spotted a BLACK VULTURE soaring low along with 4 TVs.
Slowed down as much as reasonable on the highway to confirm white

Around 10 am today I saw one Black Vulture heading north slowly over
the towers on Mount Pleasant (Town of Dryden) while I was checking
Tree Swallow boxes. No idea if we have one bird hanging around or if
multiple individuals are involved, but I suspect the latter.

A BLACK VULTURE is currently sitting with many, many Turkey Vultures behind
the piles at the Cornell compost facility off Stevenson Road. A few
juvenile Turkeys around as well, so beware, but the Black stands out as
smaller and differently shapes, with longer legs, all dark head, and white
on visib
Anne Clark reports a BLACK VULTURE on the piles and then in a tree at the
compost on Stevenson Road. She doesn't see it at the moment so it may be
airborne but is likely still in the area. Keep an eye out!
She also said she would be more than happy to trade vulture info for crow

Now there are TWO Black Vultures here, sitting together on a board fence in
the island of bushes between the two silver canopies on the slope above the
piles. Conditions are a bit mucky in the piles, so looking from Stevenson
might be the way to go, they should be visible from there at the moment.
While dropping Tractor off at school this morning on south hill, I noticed
a BLVU, the the company of 2 TUVU, heading south

I got a close look and think I just sighted one. My first, and I see in my
guidebook that they are not common around here but are becoming more common. It
is heading south around 11:30am. Another person was with me, and he said he
sees them in Varna all the time. This one had a gorgeous rusty br

watching the hawks. With the wind it was cold so I'm sorry to say we stayed in
the car most of the time. We might have missed a few hawks this way but we
still enjoyed the show.

Nancy Chen and I enjoyed a nice but brief morning in the East Hill Orchards
today. The highlight (for me - Nancy just got back from a month in Florida
and was less excited) was prolonged looks at a soaring BLACK VULTURE
immediately overhead for several minutes, then drifting off to the west.

At 2:30 today I was just finishing up an hour crow watch at the Cornell compost
facility on Stevenson Road when I noticed that an incoming vulture was a BLACK
VULTURE: short tail, flat and broad wings, and white patches in the primaries.
It then landed in the big lone snag, with 8 Turkey Vulture
