The alsa script in init.d is not running properly it is not loading the
alsa drivers or making the links for the oss compatibility.

Ok I have removed all the changes I made from everything except
modules.conf.
The problem seems to be in the alsa scripts in /etc/rc.d/init.d and in
/usr/share/alsa/alsa-utils.
If I do a modprobe snd-card-emu10k1 it loads the drivers and creates the
/proc/asound and /dev/snd and /dev/sound.
If it is a PS/2 version during the install select Logitech Mouseman+ and
it will work. It is what I use to get my tm marble working with the
middle button.

I seem to be having an iptables problem.
Once I turn NAT on all communication between the 2 nic cards seems
to die. With NAT off I can send data between the 2 sides (I put a
machine on the outside network for test.)

There seems to be a problem with 2.4.12-3 kernel and SMP.
If I boot with the SMP kernel it fails Intializing CPU#0 at the
"Cross quad port I/o vaddr 0xe880 len 0004" output.
