No, it just means data arrives slower than it is consumed, which could
have several reasons :
- S3 turning off WiFi to save battery power. Unlikely when the

The router is a Belkin Playmax N600, sited about 15 feet away with no
obstructions in between.

That was for diagnostics. Anyway: as you were watching the numbers go
down your display was on, wasn't it? . When the second number goes down
SqueezePlayer doesn't receive new data (or new data arrives too slow) .
Playback continues until all data is consumed.

Yes could very well be,personally I use an app on Android called WiFi
analyser to select the best channel
