You are probably not going to be able to make this work with just a cable.
USB has a host end and device end. The chips that implement those end serve
only one of the two functions. It's not like a serial cable that you just
have to get the right pin-out on each end. Your GPS is a "device end"

unfortunate similarity in naming.
The (simplified) definition of Serial, is to send 1 bit after the next. Since

USB-B is the regular 5 pin flat connector.
