Interesting comments.
In the late 1960’s the late Harvey Hetland (WA6KZI/N6MM) told me exactly the
same thing: a lower tone was better for copying CW. For a long time I was at
450-500, now that I am in my 70’s I am down around 400-420. I guess Harvey was
right way back then.

That is weird! I have S/N 0221 and I only have the short wire above with the
other wire below. I bought it used so maybe the PO had it up graded?

I am using the same unit as Lyn (BD4116) on a center fed 250’ doublet Inverted
Vee with about 50 feet of 600 ohm open ladder line and about 15 feet of 50 ohm
coax.
The KAT500 matches all bands except 6 to 1:1. 6 is matched to 1.3:1. I have
been told by some that the hybrid unit is worthless, b
Interesting, I have a doublet 125 feet per leg and fed with 600 ohm true open
ladder line (not window line) and the K-3 and KAT-500 both tune it to 1:1 160-6.
Feed point 40 feet up with ends at about 10 feet each. So inverted Vee.

We had linked up here on the Elecraft Group when the subject of grounds on

The Power/Compressor/Monitor control is touchy.
It usually works if I turn it very slowly. Turning it at normal speed causes it
to skip up and down in value. This is true for all three of the options

Is this a known problem? How hard

Yup, that is a flashy sparkly thing like the ribbon I suggested. Birds don’t
seem to like that.

Reflective sparkly tapes seem to keep birds off my boats.
Cheap to buy on Amazon. Search for “bird repellent”.

FWIW,
I very much enjoyed my visit to them in September. Nice people, nice company.
(I ordered a K-4 because of that visit.)

I have a fair amount of Elecraft gear all of it purchased on the used market.
The customer service I have received from Elecraft has been outstanding.
They don’t seem to care where I got their gear, they just want it to work as
designed.
I plan to buy a K-4 from them directly when it becomes avai
I had N6UT as a good CW call when I was in California.
Then I moved to Washington in 1977 and got K7IM another good CW call.
(There was another reason I wanted K7IM, but I forgot what it was.)
