Hi Bob,
I've been playing with the RSP1A at the IF of my K3 and HDSDR and SDR
Uno as panadapter software. I also had Omnirig running for this. Never
bumped into the kind of problem you describe. I can reproduce your
problem though, by setting up omnirig with wrong RTS/DTR setting. One
thing
Been trying to configure SDR Uno with RSP2 as a spectrum scope. (Using IF
output to RSP) But not much luck.Right now, when I turn on SDR Uno, with the K3
already in CW mode, the SDR keys the rig for a moment, then stops. The "ERR KEY"
message shows up on the screen. Can't get the message to
That ERR KEY problem is usually mechanical - think of something like a
pencil propped up on the paddles or something similar.
Sometimes though it is found to be a bad paddle or key cable.

Marv,
Are you using computer control of the K3S and power on the computer at
nearly the same time as the K3S? If you have the PTT-KEY menu set to
anything other than Off - Off, that can occur as the computer tests the
com ports.
Other than that, the K3S is detecting a key, paddle, or PTT
Unplug all cables from rear except power and antenna. Now turn radio on. Plug
cables one by one and cycle power each time till you find the one causing the
issue.

Page 69 of the K3 manual says that means the key circuit is closed when the
rig is turned on. It may be a different page for the K3S, but my guess is
it is the same issue.

I like using assigning rig to DXLabs Commander. Seems to work very smoothly
so far. That way there are no port conflicts and I don't need to kill my
logging program (DXLabs Suite) to run WSJT-x.

My first guess is that either DTR or RTS is being asserted by WSJT and
you have it configured in your K3 for PTT. CONFIG --> PTT-KEY -->
OFF-OFF will do it if that's the case. Happened to me.

N1MM+ polling abuses the transceiver. Try setting the N1MM+ polling

software, make sure the other software is not overrunning the K3

I notice on the VY1AAA remote, if the sequencing is not right, I would get

Unplug PTT, KEY, and PADDLES and check. You have what sounds like multiple PTT

Pete,
ERR KEY indicates that the K3 is detecting a key or paddle or PTT
closure when it powers up.
If you have the PTT-KEY menu set to anything other than OFF-OFF, your
computer may be causing that problem when it boots because the computer
'exercises' the RS-232 signals at boot time.
To
ERR KEY should only appear at turn on if one of the key lines is
closed. The only other report of ERR KEY has been when certain
software combinations poll the K3 too rapidly during transmit and

When using the K3 on SSB with a condenser mike I am occasionally getting an

Are you certain the plug is inserted all the way into the jack?
Do you have a stereo 1/4 inch phone plug that has nothing connected to
it? If not, can you borrow one?
Plug it into the jack and see if you still get the ERR KEY.
If not, the K3 is OK and the problem is with the paddles,
Unplug the bencher, and restart the radio. Does the error go away? If so,
check setting and wiring for the bencher. If not, look into radio settings.

ERR KEY means the radio is keyed by some method, by an external
device. Unplug all keying-related devices until the message goes away
(it takes a couple of seconds). You can then operate as usual.
