Then you need to place a marker, then click the marker, then hit
download.
I've not worked with them very much yet.

The results of -tap are what I expect, pixels aligned with 0,0. Although I
have a separate question at the end.
Prior to the patch I ran this:
gdal_rasterize -tr 100 100 -a Elevation -l town town.shp townrasterb.tif
and got this:
gdalinfo townrasterb.tif
...

Why did you not use
1) gdal_merge
2) gdal_translate
3) gdal_retile
Btw, if there is no need for reprojection, gdal_retile alone does the
job.
