If it is similar to a regular 123, there is one screw that holds it in.
If it has a plastic "pocket" under the latch, you need a sharp stick, or
a small screwdriver, etc to pull that out from its catches. Then you
will see the screw. Release rod is just held on with a clip. Easy!

I have never had a 123 so tell me, where is the battery and why does the
leak show up in the back seat area? Is the battery not under the hood? I
know on some of the newer cars, it is under the back seat, but I did not
think that to be the case on the 123.

I have a nail I hammered square that fits the speedometer drive.
With the nail chucked in a drill spinning "reverse" the
speedometer should show forward
