Hiya,
I've been running a mythtv frontend on an xbox very happily for a good
while now. Having heard that dvb radio support had appeared I took the
perhaps silly step of trying out building the current SVN.
This all works fine now apart from the remote control no longer works.
I've checked and li
I just finished an install from Jarod's instructions, PVR 250 silver &
black, got the file or it from the lirc web site. They have hundred's of
conf files for remotes there.

I started messing with my lirc config in order to get my serial transmitter
working and have somehow messed things up. Am wondering if these symptoms
ring bells for anyone.
If I use irrecord to build an lircd.conf file it seems to work. I can test
it with irw and most buttons (not all) work.

But now, when I run irw and pres buttons on my remote

Sorry for the late replyYes, once I chmod-ed /dev/lirc*, all
worked just fine. IIRC, I had this problem in the last run of myth,
where I had to recompile from scratch after I had initially compiled

Copy that. And make sure you had native lirc support turned on in settings.pro
when you compiled.

it seems lirc is working if /usr/bin/irw gets input. if you are going
to reinstall anything, i'd leave it at jsut mythtv

When I installed, I did use the switch so the frontend would run with
root privileges. But copying lircrc to /root/.mythtv/ hasn´t worked
either..
I also chmod-ed /dev/lirc and /dev/lirc0 to no avail..

It sounds like the frontend can't find lircrc.
Make sure that lircrc is in the ~/.mythtv directory of whatever user
is running it.

Hi Chris,

It looks like your lirc device does not exist or you have no permission to
access it.

Yes, it is the newer, silver remote w/A415-HPG in the battery
compartmentAll of the keys register fine in irw, but nothing
registers within mythfrontend.

My guess is because LIRC doesn't ever seem to like to load properly
under that kernel. Ever. You can modify your /etc/rc.d/rc.local file
to try to get it to load properly. The problem is basically that the
device is actually /dev/lirc0, but LIRC is looking for /dev/lirc.

Well, it was a series of issues...
First of all, I did have to do some of what Jarod outlines in his FC3

If I was to shoot a guess, I bet if you look in /var/log/messages
you'll find that whenever you try to fire up /usr/bin/irw, you're
getting a message saying it can't open /dev/lirc or /dev/lirc0. Is
that there?
