[OSM-talk] trace from a kml ?

2008-09-16 Thread leblatt
(This question is also posted on the Mobile Trail Explorer ML.) I made a 4 hour trip, recording over 100 places in audio with MTE. But the saved gpx is 0 byte long. Fortunately, I also saved the trace as a kml, which displays correctly in google earth. But if I try to convert from kml to gpx wit

User FredB made a nice import of a database of LPG stations (mostly in France, I think), tagged accordingly. Take a look at http://www.openstreetmap.org/?lat=43.1098&lon=5.86103&zoom=17&layers=0B00FFF with data layer on. > -Message d'origine- > De : [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:talk- > [EMAIL

Re: [OSM-talk] Restaurants/Fast Food

2008-09-09 Thread leblatt
For me the criteria is quite simple : amenity=fast_food : get food at desk, pay at desk. amenity=restaurant : food served at the table, pay at table. The kind of food served, quality of service, or whether there is a dining place or not is irrelevant (though restaurants always have one, obviously

Re: [OSM-talk] OpenStreetMap routing service

Just a bit of information about what other countries have similar to a trunk : in France there is a road category just below motorways, that people commonly call a "fastway" (voie rapide) and which legal denomination is "motorcar way" (route pour automobiles). 2008-09-06 Thread leblatt
I Consider recycling should be encouraged, and I map a recycling point when I come across one. But I find it abnormally tedious to tag the type of goods that can be recycled. This information should have been made easier to tag. For instance, instead of : amenity=recycling recycling:cans=yes

I just tried it in my (newly mapped) area. Kudos, first routing service that works for me, and the interface is nice. Only critic I see, is that more emphasis could be but on choosing larger ways when several are available. Like, choose a secondary instead of an unclassified if it makes the trip ju

I just tried directupload on windows. It’s a nice idea. But when you click “ok” nothing seems to happen. If you click again, it turns out that it uploads the gpx twice. I’ll wait and see if the dupe is rejected or if it actually creates a dupe, unneeded trace on the server. De : [EMAIL PROTE

[OSM-talk] mailing list behavior

No big deal, but when I hit < reply > on a talk@openstreetmap.org message, it replies to the message originator, not the list. I have to hit "reply all", and remove the originator. On the French ML, I just have to hit "reply", as in most MLs. I use outlook as a mail reader. Is this a problem ? __

IMO, comparing bus stops to post boxes or phone booths is a bit specious. Of course the bus stop shelter, or sign, is off the road/street. Or else they would cause some problems to motorists ! But they are in fact closely tied to that road, as the buses that stop there drive on that road, not aside

Robin : my thought, more or less, but you expressed it better. I've been tagging a few bus stops in my area, and placing them aside, unconnected to the way felt a bit strange to me.
