I've read somewhere that the srtm data has, at best, 30m resolution. I don't know that it's resolved enough for hiking/snowshoeing/cross-country skiing? I can think of features where greater than 30m resolution would be helpful. Then again, I just looked at opencyclemap for that area again,

Usually, in remote areas of the north that I've dealt with, there is often little else already there than the Landsat lakes. And usually, in a given tile, there is usually just a handful of lakes. In pretty much every case I've dealt with so far, I've replaced the Landsat lakes with Canvec

Is it the communities view that it is okay to import CanVec without reconciling the internal differences between the layers? I believe it is. The great thing about OSM data is it is not written in stone. An import or edit can be changed in the future. The data is inserted for use by

I'm a geeky guy who's always been into mapping. My first GPS was the Garmin GPS 38 (a single channel receiver that could track up to 8 satellites but took forever to get a lock). But right from the beginning, I was hooked - I even used it in 1999 to do a Study of the Accuracy of Averaged

I've spent the past several hours trying to find out out why some of my edits resulted in some accidental road removals. I think I've found the problem, which seems to relate to an apparent bug in JOSM, or at least a preference somewhere set to something unintuitive that I haven't been able to
