Not sure if its the same bug but ive had 3 npviewer.bin crashes in the
last few days. I have been unable to report the bug using apport because
of a bug in there. I am using Jaunty AMD64, all updates applied on Ext4.

I have had this problem and reported but they linked it with this bug,
and i havent even got a X40.
I have a Toshiba Satellite L40-17U and the screen is a LG Philips. I
have Ubuntu 8.10 and the screen dimms with or wilthout the AC power.
If anyone needs more information on my Laptop please ask.
I can't confirm this issue on Interpid. It works just fine.

Workaround is to define an alias in .bashrc
alias emerge="aptitude update && aptitude safe-upgrade"
instead of a script.
