pgadmin3 1.8.4-3, Jaunty. I can confirm this. I does not seems to be
insufficient memory problem (tested with 3GB of RAM), but 8500 lines can
be too much for the poor clipboard after all. As a reasonable workaround

I have manually installed the nvidia drivers for 180.60 and my system is
stable since. I upgraded recently to KDE 4.3 Beta 2 and tried at the
same time 180.44 again which resulted in 2 crashes in one afternoon
(pixelated screens etc ...)
I will keep testing this driver release from NVidia and repo

I created an encrypted swap partition (as I've done many times), but
cryptsetup, when called from /etc/init.d/cryptdisks-early fails and
stalls.
The only way to boot is to press ctrl-alt-dell at that point and it
resumes booting (without adding the swap partition).

This is interesting, because /proc/acpi/video/*/DOS is the last
remaining action handled by hotkey-setup in Ubuntu 9.04, and we were
already planning to drop this for karmic but hadn't yet due to
uncertainty over what this change was originally meant to achieve. If
