I have the same problem with an Nvidia graphic card.
At first I thought it was due to a dodgy update, I have 9.10 installed. So I
tried to reinstall 10.04 to fix it... Just booting on the live CD I have the
same strange flickering...
On 9.10 changing the graphic drivers or resetting xorg.conf

I installed the Maverick Kernel and so far it is working perfect. I
know there are many others out there that are having the same issue is
it possible/OK for me to refer them to the kernel downloads??
I did a restart with and without a disc in the drive and it is working
as expected.

Prior to Maverick pressing Alt-Prtscr results in gnome-screenshot
appearing after having taken a shot of the current window. This no
