And in looking carefully (my bad!) TBird 3.0.9 will not show enigmail as
an available add-in -- it shows several really strange packages instead,

enigmail 1.1.2 tb linux xpi is not compatible with Thunderbird 3.0.9.
I've registered a comment on a similar bug in enigmail on bugzilla, but

This still seems to be a problem. I just acquired an Asus UL30A-A2. The
touchpad tab does not show up under System - Preferences - Mouse. I've
tried various tools such as synclient (tells me SHMConfig not enabled,
and many, many tried with fdi files later, still says so), also
touchfreeze, gpointin
I'm using 8.04 and getting a mount failure when my USB scanner (a Canon
LiDE 60) is plugged in. Goes away when it is not there. lsusb sees the
flash devices, but doesn't mount them.

The "gksudo " problem is solved: Turned out /etc/hosts and /etc/hostname
had different names. Very odd, but easily fixed once sorted out. Boot
now also seems to go more smoothly.
However, the grub problem may remain. I suspect it is because the MBR is
on hd0 while Ubuntu is on hd1.

Somehow the button "People I know" got set under View / Messages.
Changing View/messages to "all" fixes things. Don't know how this
happened, since I've never gone into view.

I suspect my problem is similar. I saw I had 3 unread emails, but only 1
was visible. When I opened a webmail interfact, mail was there.
Using the webmail, I can move items to another folder (other than INBOX)
and see them, and when moved back to inbox they are visible in
Thunderbird.

The problem is that the gnumeric 1.7.11-1ubuntu3 does not seem to have the
import/output filters installed. It neither reads nor exports xls for example.
It WILL read a gnumeric file, but says "unsupported file type" for .xls. And
won't offer to save anything much other than CSV, gnumeric or pdf
Running xsane from console on my wife's Compaq (updated Feisty) gives
the segmentation fault right away. The "Searching for scanner" just
flashes and things die.
Also, power down now fails. Just stops with splash screen. Possibly
related to bug report 43961. Turning off splash gives a msg about 4

I've got it on one of my laptops, but not the other. The inconsistency
is likely part of the reason a fix is slow in coming. On gnome version

grub had no '#' in front of groot when it was described.
However, I see in https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto under Automagic
Kernels List that a single # in front of groot is

could not resize. With Knoppix 5.0.1 (5.1 has a missing library) I ran
Testdisk and got some suggestions that the geometry settings were wrong.

Well, I've SOLVED my problems with firefox.
Turns out acroread and the plugin connections had evaporated. Don't know
why. Maybe one of the updates. Certainly I've done nothing to fiddle.
However, there was a firefox update recently, and

The output from Galeon goes down to end of plugin msgs (no syntax errors
-- just crashes). Epiphany gives same output in terminal when starting
app from command line.
Because it affects all three browsers, seems like
1) Tried removing firefox and reinstalling (including removal of
.mozilla directory).
No joy.

No joy, but terminal window had hundreds of

So seems not to be the extensions, at least not directly.
