Maybe I didn't mention this, but the 2G of RAM fix also works with the
radeonhd driver. After trying the 1.2.5 driver from your PPA, i took out
2G of RAM (leaving 2G), and it worked. I took the Xorg.0.log from this
boot, and compared it to the Xorg.0.log from my previous post using
openoffice
The updated 1.2.5. driver from your PPA does not make a difference. I've
attached the configuration/log archive.

Bugs,
Thanks for your report. You can not expect 3D acceleration yet with the
free drivers on your card. Can you please try the updated radeonhd
driver from my PPA https://launchpad.net/~tormodvolden/+archive/ppa ?
(I am not able to un'dup this bug, and the other bug is a private
one.)
** Changed in:
Added your ppa to sources.list and updated various xserver-xorg-
video-... drivers.
I will try Driver radeon on next reboot.
Additional information:
Before reading your comment, I've tried removing 2 of 4 gb ram, as decribed
here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1076047page=5
and
Thanks. The radeon troubles are known and reported upstream, so let us
focus on the radeonhd driver bug here. Do you have a log from using the
PPA radeonhd?

Attached is a tar archive with relevant logs and configuration files,
generated after the error messages while booting with the PPA radeonhd.
If just the xorg.0.log is more convenient for future
comments/attachments, let me know.
Minor differences from original bug, the (EE) RADEONHD(0):
Thanks. The options in your xorg.conf should not be needed. It is not an
AGP card (FastWrites are broken and not supported BTW), and EXA should
be default on radeonhd. Does AccelDFS make a difference? Not sure it is
supported on radeonhd.
