** Description changed:
Binary package hint: pulseaudio
Under Jaunty (and any previous Ubuntu releases), plugging headphones to
the headphone mini-jack out plug cuts sounds to the main speakers
(analog) and directs it to the headphone output instead.
In Karmic, that even is not
I'm not really concerned about the headset canceling the speakers, but I
do have that same issue and it may be related to my real issue of audio
being scratchy for some applications. For example, when I reboot, and I
go to Sound Preferences - Input, my mic will be detected and if I talk
into it I
After a clean install of 9.10 (due to other reasons), front headset
started working normally with the addition of model=hp to alsa-base,
without installing anything. This was on HP tx2020eo.

I have this problem with HP Pavilion tx2020eo (AMD 64).
First installed linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic and restarted - no
change.
Then added model=auto to the line in alsa-base as Michelle indicated and
restarted - no change.

I have this problem with a Gigabyte motherboard with an AMD 780G
chipset. The southbridge is AMD SB700 and the onboard sound is Realtek
ALC889A. I have the linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic package
installed but the problem remains. Please let me know if there is
anything I can do to
I've installed linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-generic and insert the
following line to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:
options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N model=auto
And now it works!!!

I've got an up-to-date Karmic and linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic-
generic installed for a while, but the problem hasn't changed - speakers
are still outputting sound even though headphones are plugged in.

[Karmic] Analog headphones insertion not detected / Speakers not mutted
Posting once again here just to say that after the very latest update of
pulseaudio last night (I guess the final update before the release
freeze of 9.10) the issue appears to be resolved for me and the
headphones jack insertion is now properly detected, there is audio in
the headphones and

I'd like to change the description, since the situation has changed a
bit after updates, but Launchpad won't accept it Entity-body was not a
well-formed JSON document.

I also tried adding:
options snd-hda-intel model=auto
to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf, but there was no change.

I'm probably not doing it the right way, but that's the only thing that comes
to mind:
