I had this issue during a simple upgrade.
It looks like the downloaded .deb file was corrupted.
My workaround was to delete the file :
sudo rm liboxideqtcore0_1.7.8-0ubuntu0.14.04.1_amd64.deb
and then reinstall it :
sudo apt-get install --reinstall liboxideqtcore0
Maybe the sudo apt-get clean would have worked too.
In any case, I found a workaround (see bug description).

I have another issue with my FreeRunner on Precise (it's not correctly
recognised at startup, so NetworkManager does not find the right MAC
address, does not set the fix IP adress and keeps trying

After some more testing, it seems to come from the Ubuntu Theme Ambiance.
If I choose another theme, like Radiance, the contrast is ok and menus are
readable.
I tested the same sweethome3d version on Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.4 : the contrast is
ok for both themes Ambiance and Radiance.
So this seems
I confirm this issue, at least on SweetHome3D.
This is specific to Ambiance theme.
A workaround is to switch to Radiance theme, on which the contrast is ok
