I removed virtualbox-3.2 just to eliminate outside code from the kernel,
and because I saw a higher frequency of freezes with virtualbox running.
System still froze with virtualbox removed.

I do have the same problem on my HP Compaq 615 (graphics card: AMD HD 3200). It
only happens when the fglrx drivers are installed, which results in KMS being

Hi,
I tried installing Andy's kernels but the results are not very good.
While I get about 2-3 flickers/day normally, the rate gets higher when I
try to run a heavy application. If at the same time, I do the powersave
thing, the flickers seem to go away.
Can anybody tell me if I am going to run

OK, well here's what I did (don't know if it's good form or not...)
1. logged in as usual
2. press Ctrl+alt+F1
3. logged in
4. $ sudo pkill gdm
5. $ /usr/bin/Xorg -configure [gave some error message]
6. $ sudo /usr/bin/Xorg -configure [saved xorg.conf.new into my home directory]
