I tried to install the driver from NVidia's site as Emilio suggested,
but found it would not work. The 256.53 driver available on their site
is incompatible with 2.6.38 kernel used by Natty. I get the message
error: unknown field ‘ioctl’ specified in initializer and then
nvidia.ko failed to
I can confirm that I was affected by this exact same issue. Installing
gsynaptics solved it though. Interesting part is that it only affected
one of my three laptops, all running Ubuntu 11.04 with Gnome Shell and
the latest xorg ppa.

I noticed that when i switch from a virtual terminal (tty1/2..) to my locked
X session, nothing is refreshed at all and i still see my tty session (instead

experiencing this particular freeze bug?

What a random excitement roller coaster is 11.04. After an update a
week or two ago, window maximisation began to work much better.
Sometimes it would still fail, but mostly, Alt-F10, for instance, would
maximise a window in whatever screen it started. And to some extent I
could drag a window
so. I tryed. The same. desktop cd does not work correctly with vga of that
monitor. (but installed system with propertery driver from nvidia do)

Hi Jeremy, thanks for testing that.
I will go ahead and file an SRU for this bug to natty. If this is
accepted by the archive admin team, they will copy it to natty-proposed,
and ask that you update to -proposed and re-test to verify that the fix
got copied there correctly and the issue is
