2000-10-16 Thread Phonopsia
I noticed at one of the I Love Techno sites it bills Monica Kruse in
between Dave Clarke and Jeff Mills, before Richie Hawtin, Sven Vath and Carl
Cox. That's pretty damned impressive. I'm unfamiliar with her. Anyone wanna

All I know is that she was an Ultraschall (the club from the Disko B posse)
resident DJ. Her style back then was pumping
minimal techno blended with some house.

Re: 313] Bluetrain Records....

2000-10-16 Thread Tom Robbins
Bluetrain have recently promoed two seperate ten-inches. The first, a few
weeks, is called 'Diminishing Returns' and features Dean Dacosta on one side
and Steve O'Sullivan on the other. The second is called 'Standard Version'
and is, I think, all Steve's work. And yes, there is another compilation on
the way (the first, 'No Lightweight Stuff' is a MUST for fans of dub
techno), but in the meantime watch for the first Mosaic compilation next
month with trax by memory Foundation, Mark Broom, Paul Mac and others. Steve
has also started a new project, T.A.C., which is kinda his take on the
jacking Chicago sound. The first release should be out either now or very
soon, featuring Steve, Chris McCormack and John Beer, but I didn't think it
was all that and definitely preferred the Bluetrain releases.

On the topic of the Bluetrain label, i'd like to drop
some major praise on this label. Bluetrain, which
is one of Steve O'Sullivan's many projects, features
a sweet dub meets tech-house/techno sound not
that fits in perfectly with the bc/m/bm/rs or thule
stuff. There are six records out so far and one
compilation cd for the vinyl-challenged. I cant
recommend these records enough.

2000-10-16 Thread Gwendal Cobert
Sigur Ros are not really the standard FatCat product - they're a _rock_ band
everyone's been raving about (at least in European indie circles) because
they manage to glue together a very impressive female singer, some
electronics Radiohead-style, and 4AD guitars - this is their second LP, and
it's worth checking out...
About my parents' strange taste : my mother is into
folk/traditional/classical ; one day I noticed she had borrwoed some old
cassettes of mine - including an old Alice Cooper album...
Haven't found any deleted Warp 12s or Drum Codes in my family yet though.

I had rented out a room in my house to a polish man age 38. he was an
incredible artist and was working in farmington hills as an architect. he
handed me a cd one day and said he had bought it as he was looking for some
modern music to listen to. It was a Josh Wink cd. He didn't really care
for so he gave it to me. I ended up making him copies of Kruder and

Jaguar Video

2000-10-16 Thread Charles Prince
Anyone with any interest whatsoever in current Detroit techno owes it to
themselves to try and see the CD-ROM (only?) video of Jaguar which has
just come out on UK split cd single. Beginning with Rolando holding what
looks like a Technics 1200 against his chest, the whole thing emphasizes
the interface between machinery--cars, bikes, turntables--and the local
South West Detroit community. It's a great, uplifting blast of color and
movement which culminates with a group of soulful Latin-dancers ripping it
up to the track on the streets in broad daylight. The UR crew also makes
an enigmatic appearance: a core of dark energy at the center of Jaguar's
electric storm. Incomparable. At the risk of going out on a limb, I hope they
don't show it on tv: it's too good to be caged in with all the usual
crap.
