The new site is so nice. My order is already placed and should arrive on the 16th according to UPS. Fwd: Bone on John Peel
Subject: Bone on John Peel Date: Tue, 13 Mar 2001 18:15:59 + DJ BONE ON JOHN PEEL LIVE WEDNESDAY 4TH APRIL, 2001 Detroit¹s DJ Bone makes his debut on the UK airwaves and what better way to start than a feature on John Peel¹s legendary show on BBC Radio One! DJ Bone has been an integral part of the forward thinking Detroit techno fraternity for the past few years, pushing boundaries within his DJ sets & studio productions. He finally gained true recognition on home turf at last year¹s Detroit Music Festival & Awards, bagging the sought after title of Outstanding Electronic DJ¹ As a DJ he has refused to compromise the music he plays & has always won over a questioning crowd with his intelligent vision of Techno. Incorporating a palette of different sounds from beautifully structured string laid tracks & jazzy interludes to deep house, tribal rhythms & electro, Bone¹s sets are always colourful & inspired. He regularly takes his DJing passion to dancefloors across the world & has visited countries as far afield as Japan, South America, Canada, Europe & the States. Releases on his own label, Subject: Detroit have found their way into many DJ¹s boxes around the globe, but these are not his only foray into production as this man has also released on labels like Molecular and the mighty Metroplex! John Peel has been described by his former producer & friend John Walters as "the single most important figure in popular music over the last 25 years" & it would be difficult to argue with that assessment. Having gained his radio education in the States & later hosted his acclaimed show, "The Perfumed Garden" on Radio London he then moved over to Radio 1 where he has remained for over 30 years, making him the longest running presenter on the Station. His broad taste in music & ageless appreciation of the latest sounds has led to this man¹s continued popularity. His John Peel Live¹ segments regularly play host to the cream of artists & DJs across all musical genres & have previously featured DJ gurus like Ritchie Hawtin & Dave Clarke. DJ Bone will be deck-defying on John Peel Live¹ in front of a live audience at BBC Radio 1¹s Maida Vale Studios on Wednesday 4th April. track ID/show review
Went and saw the Pubas/DJ Assault show in LA on tuesday night...very very fun. Paris was on first and he ROCKED it with a killer techno/electro set. Went from 4onthefloor to electro and back with much deftness. Caught some advent tracks, speedy j, technasia...was great. Anyway he played this track (before technasia's 'force') that was 4/4 kicks, bit of bongos, a deep bassline, and a killer xylophone melody on top, and not much else. After the show I asked him what it was (he was VERY polite and cool...very very inspiring) and he said it was a white label he picked up used and had no info on. Anyway if anybody could spot it i'd be much obliged. After paris it was Assault, and well if paris made me wanna go home and play records, Assault made me wanna go home and sell my gear and just give up ;) I mean I understand how he's doing all those doubles tricks, but I don't know that I'll ever be able to do that. As for the music, it was pretty crazy. Booty, House, Electro, Jungle...all jammed together at 150+ bpm. It's wierd hearing stuff like 'no way back', 'groove la chord' and the may remix of 'jaguar' played that fast...takes a while for the brain to realize what it is. Toefinger came on last and basically cleared the floor with old funky disco stuff (started with 'don't stop till u get enough') It was great stuff but we had all been wrecked by the 4 hours of banging stuff and we were hungry so we went to pinks and went home.
