I'm going to be in Detroit for a couple of days this weekend, and I was
wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some record stores I
should check out.

Thanks!

OT track id

2001-03-17 Thread Counterforce - Lay

Haye!

This one should be easy, though not 313.

I've heard this track quite some years ago. Baaad bassline, some vocals
in spanish wit a lot of reverb. Because all that reverb, I can't understand
what the vocals say besides "conocer-me" (to know me). It gets to the point
that the vocals go something like: "Why didn't you noticed me, like I've
noticed you, why didn't you love me like I loved you..." (this one should be
the easy part for the ID)
It has some breaks that are typical of old-school chi-house (even though it
may not be), and some instrumental solos too that you don't hear anymore.
Somewhere out there should spot it. I apreciate it.

re: The Original Moody Man

2001-03-17 Thread Matthew Perkins
Herbie 'Moody' Mann's connection with KDJ is an
interesting suggestion. Now, following the title of a
recent Theo Parrish Sound Signature release and Herbie
Mann's 1957 album "When Lights Are Low" maybe Herbie
has more to answer for than some of us previously thought!

Common Factor is AKA Mr Nick Calingaert. He's clocked up quite a few
releases now, mainly on Planet E ('Pisces Groove', 'Expanded EP' etc),
but he's also put stuff out on labels like Paper and SSR. He's a great
DJ (although he hardly plays out in Chicago) and also performs an
excellent live P.A (with MPC 3000, Juno et al). I guess you could
describe his music as House... but it really has an overall modern club
sound (much like alot of the current Planet E 'sound'), that takes in
alot of electronic music's influences (both recent and distant). If
you're into Detroit flavoured music... I'd definitely recommend
tracking down some of his releases.

Check out the latest Dan Curtain 12" (on Metamorphic?) which features
new remixes by Common Factor and Recloose. Also, for the Australian
313-ers... there are rumours Common Factor will be back for DJ gigs in
late April.

ok, found this one from local record shop. anyone know anything more?
i'd like to know what label this is, and, well, artist info would be nice

tracklist:

I'd describe music something like Detroit Electro, some tracks have
vocoded vocals.

I don't see why it would be anything different than the usual $10 and $15
or $10 and $12 depending on how nice they feel.

the chicago experience 2 - cargo club
the chicago experience 2 - cargo club
saturday april 28th, marks the return of THE CHICAGO EXPERIENCE with Planet
e's Common Factor. The first one was graced with Gene Farris on the decks
last May which was a huge success and after a long break, the second
installment arrives. Common Factor has one of those reputations of a quiet
achiver who has consistently released quality music every time his name goes
to wax. His releases on Planet e are ones to remember and played by the
likes of Herbert, Carl Craig and Recloose. His dj set at Strange Days 3 was
an early morning treat as he repeats the performance Sat April 28th with
Bundi, Dlux and Troy J Been.

Track ID, please.

2001-03-17 Thread crisk

Hi,

I heard this track a couple of times.. the record label on the vinyl is
black or very dark.. one DJ even shouted the name to me, but I really
couldn't hear anything over the massive volume.

Anyhow, the track got a really, really deep bass. There's a big break,
in which only this really dark and deep continuous bass is left. I bet
most of you know it, so I took the time and fopped up a short sample
of what I remember (this bass in the break). Granted, it's as accurate as
I remember it.

The sample is at:
http://crisk.webjump.com/id.mp3 (around 100k, nothing big)

So.. please, let me know if you recognize this track.. I'm sure you would.

Thanks,

agree with all the comments posted on this one so far - the recloose mix is
the one that's doing it for me, but i can't really fault the common factor
or mettle mixes... who's mettle?...

just thought i'd post to clear up which label it's on - it's not metamorphic
- but belgium's elypsia... the tracks are all mixes of tracks from dan
curtin's 'pregenisis' album from about a year or so ago - a great album in
itself... just one of the cool releases on elypsia in the last couple of
weeks - bit of a return to form for them (what with the scan7 release as
well)...

while i'm posting, i must recommend the two upcoming releases on delsin and
rushhour by optic nerve and m>o>s ft. aroy dee respectively... you'll be
hard pushed to find two better records this year - absolute classic techno
out of amsterdam... and for all the broken beat fans - do check out the new
dhj record on archive, a cover of level 42's 'shapeshifter' - and a
wonderful one at that...

T-SHIRT UPDATE!

2001-03-17 Thread d . pinter
Hi everyone,

As promised, here is the latest news on the 313 T Shirt. I have worked to put a
time line together that includes 3 weeks for those who wish to submit new
designs or re submit previous ones from last year. There will then be a week
for online voting. At the end of the week the winning design will go into
production and be ready for DEMF on Memorial Day. The winner of the contest
will of course be awarded with a free shirt. I have worked out a deal where the
shirts will be sold at Record Time in Detroit. This will allow you to purchase
the shirts three ways: first you will be able to order online and have them
sent to you, second they will be available at the store for pick up before the
festival weekend(I would like them to get to the store as early as possible),
third they will be available for sale AT DEMF in the Record Time booth. The
shirts will be available in a range of sizes.

Here are the important dates to remember for those wanting to enter the contest.
Contest begins March 17th (today)
Submissions are due by Friday April 6th at midnight
Voting will take place from Monday April 9th - Friday April 13th. The winner
will be announced on Monday April 16th

All the designs will posted on a web site. I'll post the link as we get to the
end of the submission phase. Everyone on the list is encouraged to vote as the
winning design will represent the list at the festival.

The contest is open for everyone on the list to enter. In order to do so, email
me privately and I will send you further details about submitting and a shirt
template. I ask that you do this so I can keep track of who has entered and I
will send out reminders as the closing dates approach(we're all procrastinators
at heart).

Hope this contest adds to the anticipation of DEMF 2001 and I hope to hear from
many of you regarding submitting.
