Yeah, he started off at the Blackpool Mecca where he had a reputation for

involved with Heaven in London and Take That.

Shame really

[313] Adult on Friday/MMM/some records.

2001-11-06 Thread Jonny McIntosh
Adult on Friday was very good. There was a good mix of people and the live
act was, if not life changing, pretty good fun. One particularly top moment
was from Keith Tenniswood, when he played Donna on MMM - it's a cracker of
a tune, from a long time back judging by the Fat Cat price sticker on mine.
Any other info on these folk? My copy is stamped with too much ink, but
there's not much to go on apart from it being a German email address. Great
music all night (well, for as long as I was there) in fact. It's nice to go
out and hear techno I like for a change, rather than stale old conservative
stuff you all too frequently hear. Later on I went to Plastic People. The
self consciously hip Body Soul sound was too much too bear in contrast,
though.

Went record shopping yesterday. Some stand outs were:

Gadgets Parallel - Finally I hear what the fuss is about. Superb!
Definitely some of my favourite non Maurizio Maurizio music. There's a track
with a constant bass drone that is maybe one of my favourite tracks of the
year so far. I'd appreciate any pointers on how to get hold of the rest of
the back catalogue.

MOS Utilities - Don't know how old this is it, but it's a fine example
of what makes RushHour stuff so great for me right now. Classy Detroit like
sounds with a slight lo-fi sound and a distinct lack of nostalgia. Wicked.

Full Swing [Edits] part 3 - So much of this DSP stuff about it's hard to
sort the weak from the chaff. In the end it's really subjective, but I like
the rough expansive sound of Full Swing stuff. Maybe someone else does too
:)

Jonny.

something under the Errorsmith name but I might well be wrong.

The Soundhack 12s are great - the only kind of minimal house I really dig

there's also a hard, experimental rather industrial electro release by mmm. i
think it was their first one.
one of the errorsmith tracks is on herbert's mistakes mix-cd as i've been told.

all their releases should still be available at hardwax.

i'm still hoping for a night where i can play that jb cut-up track off the

Any other info on these folk? My copy is stamped with too much ink, but
there's not much to go on apart from it being a German email address.

I don't know much but AFAIK they're the same guys (guy?) behind the two
Soundhack 12s and also the Soundstream EP. I think they've also done
something under the Errorsmith name but I might well be wrong.

The Soundhack 12s are great - the only kind of minimal house I really dig
cos its still got that jackin' cut-up feel to it.

both are electro
one has the baritone vocal saying standing in the futurei am the
voice from the/your past

the other one has a male robotic voice saying ...this is what we call the
funk - all through the track...

they're probably well known but.

Yeah, he started off at the Blackpool Mecca where he had a reputation for
unearthing records no one had heard of,

 uh...didn't they all?...

Yeah, that's part of what it was about, but Levine was also known as being
the main man for it. His parents owned some successful businesses in
Blackpool, and he was one of the first Northern Soul DJ's to fly over to the
US with the intention of going to old warehouses and shops to buy rare soul.

He also became a pariah at one of the other famous clubs, the Wigan Casino,
due to him pushing newer records rather than just 'oldies'. Apparently
Esther Phillip's 'What A Difference A Day Makes' nearly tore the scene in
two.

Damn. Anyone know what Aril Brikha has been up the last few

hearing anything out of him since I was layed out by just about everything

He did a remix for john thomas on logistic 019 (vision remixes)..

But it was not as good as departure in time tracks in my opinion.

I also like the art of vengeance ep very much (on fragile).
He used to dome some things as art of vengeance on swedish labels, but
now it is very silent around this man.

[313] Mr. Fingers' LA arrival

2001-11-06 Thread James Hurlbut
Heard about Larry Heard from the website of some local deep house warriors
at www.mekanic.com . For those in the area that are into the garage (that's
paradise not 2-step) vibe these guys throw a good friday night called
More . Last year they brought Terrence Parker and Alton Miller into town,
and hopefully they will bring in Larry Heard on the 24th. For anyone going
to the Pallette records showcase tomorrow, I'll be the guy in the
Tupperware baseball cap. I would love to meet some local 313ers (hmm,
perhaps an oxymoron) .

Damn, you beat me to that one, James. Direct link:

P.S. Am I the only person that gets seemingly-random posts to the list
dropped for no reason? I posted last weekend about Richie's LA
appearance, and it never showed up in the following Digests. Gr...
