[313] record reviews
thought i'd share my views on some of the records i've recently purchased [or have just received for being the nice person i am ;) ] newworldromantic - spirit [delsin] the 154 returns to delsin, with the follow-up to his dusk ep on 100% pure from a couple of years ago [1996?] 2 tracks: one is the long version of track a1 of the 100% pure release, and i do mean the long version; original was well over 10 minutes long allready, this one adds another 5 minutes. it sounds a lot cleaner then the original release aswell, nice! the other side, to me, sounds like an echo of his first two releases on delsin. this is deep. more downtempo, like the 12" on his own label. this is a record that you put on, you take a seat, turn the sound up, and just let your sub-conscience experience. theo parrish - you forgot [sound signature] dirt rhodes has been mentioned a couple of days ago, so i'll just say that 'you forgot' is a hypnotising track. a piano, that once you've listened to it won't leave your head, and weird vocals. it starts off as a 4/4 beat, but slowely changes, ending up sounding like something by rhythm & sound. that's what i like about those theo parrish tunes, they slowely evolve, even though you hardly notice it, they sound totally different at the end of the song, then the way they started. dimension 5 - alien artform [delsin] this has also been mentioned on the list. the first time i heard it i thought it was nice, but lacked something, just didn't quite new what. have listened to it some more and it grew on me. very nice, though i have to say that my initial doubts are still in my mind when i listen to it, to me it sounds like some of the songs are not really finished. the idea is there, but it just needs a little extra, maybe some remixes? [i think one person in the delsin camp is particularly suited -> optic nerve] but that's just my personal opinion. personal favorite: think tank. really real classics vol. 5 this is a great series [others include candido - thousand finger man and roy ayers - our time is coming] this one features chaka kahn - i know you i live you [ as sampled by agent x for his planet e release] the demo version. a way better version then the original [imho] very nice. the other side has the track 'messin' around' i have no idea who this is by, but this is very nice, for all those theo parrish mix-cd-addicts: this would fit right in! jurren _ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] nu -era

Firstly, Nu Era is an alias for Marc Mac from 4 Hero in case you didn't know - and there's plenty of 4 Hero material out there! Secondly, there's a Nu Era album on Reflective (a now-defunct offshoot of 4 Hero's Reinforced label) which came out several years ago - I've never seen one though. There's also a track on the Freezone 7 compilation on SSR, a remix of Cold Mission's 'Drug Store Rude Bwoy' on Reinforced, and one or two other things here and there which I've forgotten... That would be the clear 12" with Clavia's North on it (yay Clavia!). :) Funny, b/c I never got the album either and always thought it was called 7:nites, but when I made a trip to http://www.elypsia.com I found out it was called 7 Days. But that was quite a few years ago, so there may be something new. Just clarifying that *this* album did come out. The site has no info on forthcoming releases from him. http://www.artofdancerecords.com has no further info, and has been in "coming soon" mode since at least May. Sean Deason may be able to shed some light if he's still around here. However, I sort of suspect this rumor may be of the cyclical variety, kinda like that new Derrick May album. Re: [313] fix
> Don't know where you can find RA's, but I thought the remixes on Slamdunk were pretty disappointing... Yeah they really are !!! Koert from the Courthouse I.A. recordstore, was the original initiator of this whole re-release at that recordcompany. But his co-workers totally f_cked it up and therefor the people involved in remixing this classic weren't too enthusiastic anymore [after Koert left]. I even remember something of a simple remix by Speedy J. and some other known Dutch producers... Also the remixes on Gigolo aren't too surpising. I'm not sure there's a lot of mileage in remixing Flash when its essentially a remix to begin with. Maybe the Gigolo release will prove me wrong... [313] philly record stores (OT)
Sorry for the OT... I was hoping to find a record store(s) in Philly that carries some good disco/funk/motown selections as my local Jersey-hole-in-the-wall used vinyl outlet has started overpricing and slimming down their selection. I'll be in Philly on Saturday and thought I should see if there's anything down there...it being Philly and all;). The only stores I know of in Philly are the 611 new and used store and a jazz store I heard about off of South Street. Thanks to any helpers. d __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: [313] AMG Criteria
> I'd never presume about your experiences, so *please* don't presume about > ours. Sorry, I should have prefaced with 'in my experience' and distanced my statements from AMG. I meant, to answer the question as to who decides what artists go in the music guides, that the people the content are at the mercy of the editors. Some editors are much nicer than others, and it shows... witness AMG, one of the good ones. I hope I didn't sound like I was making assumptions or implying anything about AMG. > Which "one of those books"?? RE: [313] AMG Criteria
At 06:22 PM 2/7/2002 -0500, you wrote: > It is entirely up to the editor, who is > influenced by the publisher and their > concerns about the market they are targeting. I'd never presume about your experiences, so *please* don't presume about ours. AMG has never received any type of suggestion, concerning direction or inclusions, from any outside source (including our publisher), and would refuse to accept any given. Our publisher accepts exactly what we give them -- which of course means that any and all complaints about inclusions or treatment can be laid at our feet. As John is a full-timer, or much closer to it than my freelancing self, let me clarify a few things. The bulk of AMG's writers do not receive assignments. We request articles - a review of this record, a bio of this artists - and they approve/deny. I have never had a request denied, even if it was a request to write an article on a limited run noise record of 1000 or 2000 copies (i.e. for a limited interest/audience.) They give their writers a lot of freedom, and I've never received a "Re-write that article" or "Don't write about " request. Given that, I was not involved in the editing of AMG's Electronica guide, so I have no say about what was included there. However, as John said, it isn't a guide to techno. It's a guide to electronica. For better or worse, that term includes people like Moby, Fluke, The Chemical Brothers, and other popular electronica acts. Since the writers tend to be techno fans, a lot of these electronica acts get grudging or negative reviews, but in order for the book to complete its purported purpose, these reviews have to be included.
