[313] Juan Atkins in SF

2002-03-09 Thread Eli Bingham
Well, with all the talk back and forth about Juan, I thought I'd
let you all know that he threw DOWN Thursday night in SF. Best
set that I've seen him play, period. Classic techno, hard techno,
new house, old house, disco, classics, and electro, dropped
and mixed with remarkable skill. He even played E.S.G. "Moody"!
The party was still packed and pumpin' at 2am when I left, and
I heard it was still going strong at 3am. On a Thursday!

[313] TONIGHT (March 9,2002) : FRED GIANNELLI AT GABE'S Iowa City

2002-03-09 Thread Kent williams
The LAST time I'll spam about this show.

Out of towners -- if you show us an ID at the door showing you've driven
100 miles to get to this show, it's $2 off the $10 admission. That's right
-- bring a carload, and the gas is on us. Well not really. But you know
what I mean...

As far as I know this is Fred's only scheduled midwest appearance in a long
while, so come check out what he's been doing with himself since DEMF ...

This Saturday Night (March 9th, 2002) 10 PM
At Gabe's Oasis (330 E Washington, Iowa City)
ROTATION Presents

THE KOOKY SCIENTIST: LIVE AUDIO DEMOSTRATION (plus8, telepathic)
VINCE WOOLUMS VS JUAN & AUTO OF THE COMMITTEE (record collector, brothas&sistas)
DJ REDEYEZ(420 Kids/Quad Cities)

If you were at DEMF 2001, you probably saw Fred play Saturday afternoon,
where he proved that Live Techno is NOT a contradition in terms. If you
know your plus8 catalog you know he's put out some of the essential
minimal techno records. And if you REALLY know your history, you know
that Fred's work in Psychic TV helped define the Acid House revolution
in the UK.

Vince Woolums--Rotation founder, versatile DJ, trainspotter, record store
majordomo; in my opinion one of the top DJs in Iowa, both in terms of
taste and technical skills. Put him together with Iowa City's top MCs
Juan & Austin from the Committee for a drum & bass meltdown, and you're
talking major soundclash!

DJ REDEYES--Opening up the evening, but a headliner-quality DJ, Redeyez
will bang it like only he can. A dynamic, accomplished Techno DJ, he
can get a crowd moving like no other. One of our local heroes, Redeyez
could go anywhere on earth and blow the roof off. Come early and get
sweaty.
