[313] Distribution Companies in Europe
First off, Let me say thank you all, for answering my questions when I have them (ie. about pressing, cutting, etc.) and let me say sorry for polluting this group with questions. But now comes the newest question, as you know I am trying to start up my own lable and with that comes the hard part, finding distributers. This is what I need: A list of European Distribution companies. I would like to concentrate these tracks in Europe more or less. Re: [313] Fragmented records
HI Kickin' was a UK based label that put out a lot of techno in the early-mid nineties. I can't remember off hand anything specific that they did, but I know I have a few and they definatly did a lot of compilation LPs, the best probably being the Colin Dale Outer Limits album that had old tracks from Carl Craig, Stefen Robers and Luke Slater. Its bugging me because they had a really distinct logo that was always plastered across thier records but I cant remember any!! Hang on, its coming to me...thats it, they did all the Scientist tracks that were pre jungle, breakbeat hardcore kind of rave affairs, you'd probably recognise the 'exorcist' track they did. I think they did a lot of stuff like this before maturing a bit and doing mainly comps. Plus they did a lot of the early Matt B stuff, Plantastik I think it was called, which I guess was the pre cursor to Tek house, so quite an influential label in many ways I guess. [313] Fragmented records
Whilst paging through some old dance mags this weekend I came across a review for a Paul Mac release on Fragmented. The review said that Fragmented was a subsidiary of Kickin' records. For the life of me I can't recall anything on Kickin' - someone want to volunteer some info on either label. RE: [313] NSC?
Thanks for the info... I did think that NSC was the name of the record pressing company, but I was slightly confused because I did not realize that there were releases put out under the NSC name. Always nice to learn something! /dave Paul Virilio: "Resistance is always possible! But we must engage in resistance first of all by developing the idea of a technological culture. However, at the present time, this idea is grossly underdeveloped. For example, we have developed an artistic and a literary culture. Nevertheless, the ideals of technological culture remain underdeveloped and therefore outside of popular culture and the practical ideals of democracy. This is also why society as a whole has no control over technological developments. And this is one of the gravest threats to democracy in the near future. RE: [313] NSC?
NSC is NOT a pressing plant! They just do the cuts. It started as a 2 man business somewhere in Detroit. After Ron Murphy his partner died he changed the name from NSC to Sound Enterprises but kept using the NSC logo in his cut to honour his partner. > -Oorspronkelijk bericht- > Van: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Verzonden: maandag 22 april 2002 15:52 > Aan: 313@hyperreal.org > Onderwerp: RE: [313] NSC? > > > NSC is National Sound Corporation, a pressing plant in > Detroit that's been > central to the city's music industry for decades. RE: [313] NSC?
NSC is National Sound Corporation, a pressing plant in Detroit that's been central to the city's music industry for decades. I believe they were pressing Motown records back in the day, and a lot of the P-Funk material was pressed there. They noticed the techno explosion, and the main guy there (forgot his name) gave Mad Mike and Jeff Mills the idea for doing locked grooves - "I can't help but notice that a lot of this music you guys are pressing these days is a bit... repetitive...", he said, tactfully, and suggested that he cut a record so one beat just loops indefinitely. UR were impressed, and from then on they used NSC to do all those weird inside-to-out pressings and stuff like that. Eventually NSC decided to launch an imprint of sorts, and a few records came out under it. The Silicon track on the EP you mentioned below is Heath Brunner's best, I reckon, and I often play it if I'm spinning booty or ghetto tech. And I'd say that the Rob Hood track is probably *less* minimal than a lot of his other track - there's some latin percussion in there besides the standard 909, and a voice that sounds to me like it's saying "latté!"... Was taking another look at the Submerge website and I noticed the NSC-056 Robert Hood/Silicon record. Does anyone know anything about what NSC is or about this record? I did listen to the preview and i thought the electro track sounded pretty dope (as far as anything compressed into RealAudio can!!!) /dave Paul Virilio: "Resistance is always possible! I remember seeing a post a while back about a KMS afterparty at The Works on Monday night following DEMF. I think you can check their website for info at www.theworksdetroit.com or even the KMS site should have something soon if they don't already. As far as I know The Works is doing a regular Monday night thing each week with KMS, so I'd imagine that Monday with the festival in town would be no different. Ive been checking technotourist but there's no KMS, no planet E, no 430 west, no Derrick May, no Kenny, no drexciya. Seems fishy. Last year I went to KMS party which was not advertised, but this year does not seem as promising, the line up at the festival is mediocre, and morale is down. So I guess my question is to those out there who might have some connects with labels in your city. Are there going to be more events that have not yet been posted. Does anybody know??? _ Chat with friends online, try MSN Messenger: http://messenger.msn.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
