A couple new sound files, for those so inclined: http://www.bprince.com/SierraVistaUnfinished.mp3 - 5mb, 5:35 (its nearly finished, just want to tweak a couple transitions) http://www.bprince.com/GravitationalShearUnfinished/mp3 - 2mb 1:40 (formerly Charger*.mp3) Some people may hate what I did to the bassline in "Sierra Vista" . . . its transformed from a pseudo-ethnic repetitive thing into some kind of Parliament/Larry Heard jazzy thing. unbelivable. i'm sure the new owners are using the property for something like a gas station or a quick mart, or something that retarded. Re: [313] new Drexciya LP!
jt, The 12" is definitely more pounding than a lot of recent Drexciyan releases. That said, it's still a bit on the experimental tip. Two of the tracks are pounding techno grooves: one with a twisted sort of Detroit feel (offkey synth stabs) and the other with harsh spacy sounds layered in. The third has more of an electrobass feel, but still retains that Drexciyan deepness (probably my favorite of the 3 tracks). Nothing really "earcatching" with any of the tracks, but that's pretty much Drexciya's style of late (as you say, different and less direct). I passed on the last Tresor release as well but feel that this one is a bit better (although definitely not Drex's best work). g On Thursday, June 20, 2002, at 12:55 PM, J. RE: [313] new Drexciya LP!
I only heard the 12" so far but it is really a good one. I think the album will be like Raoul mentioned before. A mixture between really quiter electronic stuff and much more aggressive weird stuff like the "molecular enhancement" on Submerge JT, I think there won't be too much basslines on the album. [313] Re: Theremin/Electronic Odyssey
Now, it's been a while since I've seen the docu-flick, but I do remember being left a bit cold by it. I was hoping for more of a broader perspective, one which would relate the unique instrument to the slowly building movement (in disparate elements) that was modern electronic music. Instead, the focus was on the plight of this one man and the effect he rendered on his close circle of associates. Yes, testimony and opinions were solicited from a handful of modern musicians (Brian 'whoops, I left my brain somewhere over the last breaker' Wilson's comments being the most entertaining), but these were marginal tidbits utilized to fill space. Let's face it, the theremin is a weird-sounding instrument (very cheeky). I would rather hear more details about the motivation which inspired its construction than listen to countless pieces involving its integration in typical ensemble settings. I could be way off base thanks to the ravages of time. Plus, I remember being tired when watching it. Could someone convince me I am misled and primed for a second viewing? In fact, can anyone recommend any existing works (on video) highlighting early futurist music and folks such as Edgar Varese? [313] new Drexciya LP!
The Drexciyan onslaught continues: hot on the heels of the recent Tresor LP is a new one for Clone. Titled 'Grava 4', it has a bonkers space theme this time and 9 tracks. No idea about when it's out or formats (mine's a CD) but I will post a reaction once I've got to grips with it. www.clone.nl would probably be the place to look for more details in the meantime. There's also a 12", 'Drexcyen R.E.S.T. Principle', too. TOM - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[313] Promos
I have a query/question for all those who own record labels and to other DJ's out there. I have recently earnt myself two residencies in Gemrany now. I play in West Germany every month now at a location near Hanover to a crowd of about 400. I have now clocked up am residency in East Germany to 1000 people , and I start playing there in September and then on every month. I also play at other locations in the months in Germany as I am making a name for myself out there. The style differs form Dertriot techno to hard Leibing/Advent techno. i have approached Prime Distribution twice now and I get no emails back from the guy who runs the promos. I am not aksing for loads , just 10 a month and I am prepared to pay the £1.50 that they cost, But even then I am finding it hard. I am producing later this year but I really wanted to see what the reaction would be from other labels/distribution companies as to why they feel Prime may not consider me as a good source to get the promos heard? To play 3 weeks out of the month starting in August, you can check the site( www.kube72.com) would be quite impresssive for someone who does not produce and is merited on his DJ skills aloneI realise that if I produce tunes in Germany then this would have a great impact but surely like we all say somethimes some producers just aren't good DJ's , so shouldn't solo DJ's get the same look in as producers cos at the end of the day we all go hear what the DJ sounds like? all answers will be taken seriously and constructively many thanks for this guys Ian - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

And I loved the Clara Rockmore piece ; anyone know > enough about her to recommend one or two records from her I highly recommend anybody that is interested in the theremin to check out some of the items at this site (http://theremin.info/theremin-store.shtml) the clara rockmore CD entitled "The Art of the Theremin - Clara Rockmore" particularly good is the track "Saint-Saens - The Swan" sounds nothing like techno but you have to admire the ability to make such a fantastic sound out of electronics in those days.I think that is the only CD of hers available (it was produced by Bob Moog i think) the book 'Theremin : Ether Music and Espionage' is very detailed and is worth a read also. the best thing about the theremin story I think, is all the people he met and the devices he created and his life story..not so much the sound of the instrument which can be annoying at times..small doses it's ok!
