Mark Farina does it for me every time - just something indefinable about his sets paxahau (www.paxahau.com) have a great set up by him, for reference H Date: Fri, 9 Aug 2002 14:36:54 -0500 To: 313@hyperreal.org From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: your most soulful DJ? Message-ID: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Hey all- I know it's a big and open question to ask but I'm curious to hear who - in your own opinion- is the most soulful DJ. What I mean is - for you who is the one whose got it and manages to bring it to your heart every time. And I'm talking only DJs here. Now I know that people will want to argue about what is soulful and what isn't - personally I don't care - and I really don't want to hear any negative comments please - I'm just interested in the positive. I don't want to see this go down as a Richie Hawtin doesn't play soul music thread - if your grandma is the most soulful let me know and I'll respect your opinion. Give some examples or details if you want. I'm not looking to stir up controversy - just want to see who makes the list(s). Please keep this a fun discussion (argue off list). Re: [313] Ugly Edits?
There is a big difference between influence and sampling.. Come on... B***S**T. Have to jump on the bandwagon with this one. If you make a statement out here you have to justify it. How can you say that ?? Granted, tunes like 'Strings' are CLASSICS but original never thought of before, rubbish. Why does everyone juump on 'strings' what about 'the dance' 'it is what it is'icon kap-tic harmony sure they are heavily influenced but they are not sample Check some of the strings in old disco I got loads of disco with strings in...and tracks (and no, I don't intend to barrage you with a load of old disco/house tracks as examples). Derrick May's music was influenced by the disco/hi-nrg/funk records he was listening to at the Music Box (and elsewhere). Classics, maybe but completely original and never done before; nonsense. I reckon 90 % of techno records that become classics are completely original *don't send me a barrage of disco/house tracks that are sampled please* Memo from Alex Bond of PricewaterhouseCoopers Start of message text Just out of interest (I'm not saying there's anything wrong with it), why would you feel betrayed? [313] Real Audio download-/recordable?
this may be the most stupid question for the rest of the week, but since on this list there's often talk about Real Audio dj-sets and I really would like to listen to them, but don't have the patience/time to listen to them all online. is there any way to DL them or at least record them while they're playing? that would make life far more easy... thanks in advance! -- Ethilrist - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Yep. You can do this the plain ol' analog way (mini-to-mini) or analog-to-digital (USB-to-optical-in). Xitel technologies sells a couple of boxes to do the latter I believe. -d On Mon, 12 Aug 2002, Odeluga, Ken wrote: ok, I've got a dumber question! After it's capture in late February the hip hop-electric-funk hybrid finally escaped the evil scientist laboratory where it was being held. Efforts to clone and mass produce it's vibe proved futile. Evading security cameras and bypassing the guards it broke loose. Missing for months the melodic mutant was recently detected roaming the coast of Norfolk in pursuit of it's only source of nourishment; subsonic vibrations otherwise known as bass. The renegade outfit known as Dedbeat are secretly assembling a base camp in the direct path of this insect like being. Their aim; to infiltrate the misunderstood entity and form an Audio Splinter Faction responsible for the freedom alternative soundwaves into the blah, blah, blah... Hmmm, a touch dramatic but nice visual imagery all the same. We get a bit carried away at times and actually believe we're some sort of justice force with divine objectives for music. But then again perhaps we're just up our ar*e, chin stroking buffoons who like the sound of our own voice? - Why not come along to Dedbeat 3 and make up your own mind, bouye! We got some awesome acts for you (the original Brand Nubians back together!!!). And hey, what else you gonna do in November?
