[313] Dick Richards

2002-08-20 Thread Mxyzptlk
His new one (Amanecer - on raum...musik) is quite nice. Tends to move in
and out of places, so it isn't easily slotted into one category. It does
fit on the label, so expect it funky and while not exactly minimal, it nods
in that direction at times. I've had a cdr of Richards' around for at least
a year and I think he popped up on at least one comp. I've grabbed lately,
but I was surprised at how nice this is.

I agree with you there, IMO SP last good album was too dark park, last rights
was just to "scarry" for me.
but I think it is nice that bands like these have such varity in there catalog,
for example AC/DC has a formula and all there music sounds the same.
at least they have different ideas wheather I like them or not it's a direction
of musical evolution.
which is important for keeping it fresh.

but SP is not the only industral band form back then that just lost it IMO,
ministery, kmfdm, and nin all went in directions that doesn't suit me.
who ever decided that industral was all about screaming guitars
and kiss style stage shows should have there @$$ kicked on to there sholders.

groups like Cabert voltaire, throbing gristle, can, big black, montie cazaza
(sp?), and non really set a standard in my mind for something really different
when I was younger.

also worth a mention:

THE OTHER PEOPLE PLACE FT. MYSTIC TRIBE: Sunday Night Live At The Laptop
Cafe 12" (CLONE). "Clone is proud to present this special project by the
Other People Place! Since their amazing debut album on Warp we present a
new release by this obscure act ft. another classic artist from Detroit
called Mystic Tribe (previously known as Urban Tribe on labels such as
Mowax, Planet E and the obscure Retroactive label). The Other People Place
present 'Sorrow & A Cup Of Joe' wich is a sweet moody house kind of track
(wich is a kind of Moodymann meets Dopplereffekt) with warm chords and
typical vocals. Mystic Tribe delivers an sweet melancolic broken beat track
called 'Telepathic Seduction', with dusty sound and a warm prominent
basslines as they did before on the before mentioned labels... reminds
especially on their early works one Retroactive (together with Carl Craig).
Urban Tribe (Or Mystic Tribe) can be seen as one of the founders of the
broken beat/nu jazz/techno wich has an increasing group of addicts these
days (Think Jazzanova, Domu, Recloose, John Arnold etc)."

The Robert Taylor possessions aren't in the public domain.
They are his possessions and are considered private property.
Whereas music or literature etc are published and become part of the "public
domain" and are open to the public.

Who is Robert Taylor anyway? Does he have a fit bird??

don´t worry, it´s all classical 242 stuff to be played, i´ve heard ´Body to
Body´ (great track) in a recent set from DJ Hell and it sounded fg cool
(and made me smile from ear to ear)...

Martijn (who´s a hughe F242 fan..and would love to see a FLA record being
played by Hell:-)

i dont know about this. i love 242 and the klf and all those kind
of guys to death, but i dont like the way other "industrial" bands
have turned out. skinny puppy's solo stuff was horrible IMO. i
dont know how to feel about all of this.

Let's see just how clever the Final Scratch manufacturers really are. The
trick to beating 'patent-busters' is marketing your technology in such a way
that the market comes to regard it as 'The Definitive Item,' - a la
Technics - thereby bucking all immitators, no matter how much cheaper, or
equally efficacious they are.

Me, I'm not prone to the prestige trap (more like I can't afford to be!) and
will buy what's cheaper as long as it works.

News from Hell:

Hell quits the biz. Citing unoriginality and a post 9/11 economic market;
the record label exec, music producer and super star dj gigolo promised that
he will return to take on Martha Stewart with 80's styles and European
aesthetics. Stewart was commented as saying, "Preposterous? I'm a
professional housemaker, he's a professional gigolo. It would never work
out."
