[313] Killer Rec/Revolver Rec Label Tour
FOR HTML VERSION OF THIS MAIL, FOLLOW THIS LINK: http://www.remoteagency.com/mailout/remote_tour_solicitation_killer_revolver _drive_tour.htm THE REMOTE AGENCY PRESENTS: * KILLER/REVOLVER LABEL TOUR * * NOVEMBER 2002 * FEATURING: ADAM MARSHALL (KILLER REC.) - DJ PAN/TONE (REVOLVER REC.) - LIVE PA AND INTRODUCING JACOB FAIRLEY AND IAN WORANG AS THE UNCUT (KILLER REC.) - LIVE PLEASE NOTE: THIS WILL BE A DRIVING TOUR AND ONLY AVAILABLE IN ONTARIO, QUEBEC, AND THE NORTH-EAST UNITED STATES. TO SUBMIT A BOOKING INQUIRY, PLEASE EMAIL [EMAIL PROTECTED] TOUR INFO: Brimming with enthusiasm after a year long period of near incestuous collaboration, Pan/tone, the Uncut, Jacob Fairley and Adam Marshall are now set to bring their take on techno, house and electronic music out of the confines of Toronto. With experience playing across North America, Europe and South America under their belts, this group has decided to appropriate the conventional rock tour and see how it can apply to the dance club. These artists have all played with one another enough times to be confident in their ability to create an entire night of seamless sets where one artist flows into the next, mixing djing, live instrumentation, hardware and software. These four chaps - partnering and going solo in their various incarnations - intend to get in a van and bring a little rock to the dancefloor; a few hotel rooms might be worse for wear and the occasional TV may end up in the swimming pool, but isn't it time that techno finally dropped its pants in the face of austerity. THE UNCUT BIOGRAPHY: LABELS: KILLER, DUMB-UNIT, SENDER Influences such as the icy post punk sounds of Joy Division, the trashy rock sprawl of The Stooges, the wall of sound of My Bloody Valentine, the clever intricacy of Television and the pop sensibilities of New Order meet the hyper modernism of minimal techno such as Burger/Ink and the sterile Detroit electro pulse of Adult. Electronic instrumentation including analog synthesizers, drum machines and samplers share equal space with the traditional instruments of the rock archetype - guitar, bass and the human voice. Live, The Uncut performs as a duo. Jacob Fairley does the guitaring and the vocaling, Ian Worang does the bassing and pile of electronic boxes help out with the rest of the noises. Performances have taken place in such disparate venues as Element and The Tequila Lounge. Each type of venue - rock bar and dance club - showcases a different side of the band and goes to further the notion that real connections exist between all of these artificially separated camps. In spite of all of this, they would rather not be described as electroclash, synthcore, new new wave, electronica, ghetto tech, electro tech, 80s synth-pop revivalists or anything else like that. With an imminent releases on Killer, Dumb Unit and Sender, The Uncut are eager to begin sessions for a full length release and to start bringing their live show a greater number of both rock and dance venues. The Uncut are from Toronto, not New York, Detroit, Berlin or Cologne. -- Original Message -- From: Odeluga, Ken [EMAIL PROTECTED] Just canvassing for some thoughts a year after that cataclysmic event ... Was there a change in the soul of America? nah. what is people's biggest concern now? the downturn in the economy. people are still concerned mainly with the fatness of their bank accounts. Did it find voice in music, including music out of Detroit? bruce springsteen got 5 stars in rolling stone magazine for his 9- 11 crapola. personally, i feel terrible about the loss of life on 9-11, but every single artist's view of it has reeked of one of two sentiments: 1. trying to personalize something that wasnt personal to them. to the best of my knowledge, i havent heard a song by someone who lost a family member. 2. speaking out with the voice of the community which evidenced by my disagreeing with the sentiments is not true. tom andythepooh.com - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
[313] one year later
Subject: Twin tower porn music: I Like to Watch on 9-11 The music from Chris Korda's infamous I Like to Watch video will finally be released on vinyl, just in time for the one-year anniversary of 9-11. The video combines 9-11 media coverage with professional sports and hard-core pornography. More than 250,000 people have downloaded the video since it first appeared on the Church of Euthanasia web site, on December 11 of last year. The EP will be released on Null Records in Berlin, and distributed by Possible Music, also in Berlin. In addition to the original video mix, the 12 will include house remixes by Chris Korda, Richard Bartz, and Paul Davis, plus an industrial remix by Cannibal Whore Feast. The sleeve will feature color images from the video, such as the WTC being licked by a giant tongue. Fans of the video have been waiting impatiently for vinyl, but finding a label with the balls to release I Like to Watch was no easy task. Several labels agreed to do it, and then changed their minds later, wasting valuable time. Another label expressed interest, but insisted on a plain black cover, which would have sent the wrong message, says Korda: I'm not ashamed of being sexually aroused by 9-11, I'm ashamed of being American. People are saluting the flag and praying to Jesus while we incinerate what's left of the earth, and I'm sick of it. RE: [313] off topic but fun nonetheless/acid
So it's not acid house if there's distortion on the 303?? That's adding a little too much narrowmindedness to the genre I think Acid is a feeling, just as house is ;-) personally, I wouldn't know how to really define acid house, but it sure isn't the 303 = acid equasion. There's plenty of brilliant acid around without the 303. Maurice Joshua's - I got a big d*ck as one of the best examples. And as far as distortion goes, like it or not, but Bang the Acid is still acid. Maybe you don't think it's great and it's not from the 80's or from Chicago or sounds like Phuture. RE: [313] off topic but fun nonetheless/acid
I think there's a bit of a temptation to think that acid house, like hip-house, was a sub-style of house that only lasted so long, and that subsequent records by UR, Damon Wild, Affie Yusuf et al were essentially techno tracks with an acid sound. I'm a big fan of continuity in music though and so I would class Bang the Acid as an acid track. However (maybe this is just me) when I refer to acid house I generally mean the late-80s Chicago variety, including Maurice Joshua's ode to his penile dimensions and JM Silk's Music Is The Key, both non-303 tracks. However if I'm referring to the whole style of music that started with Acid Trax and includes Bang the Acid, Seawolf, Acid Waves and all the anonymous blank-label 303 stormers lurking in my record collection, I'll use the term acid instead. If the 303 is distorted, if the kick drum has that 1990s oomph rather than the 1980s punch, if there is no 808 or 707 in the mix, that's what more contemporary acid sounds like to me. But if there's a heavily compressed Linn snare, a punchy RZ-1 kick drum, more of a jacking than flowing rhythmic structure, and especially if there are vocals/samples, that's what 1980s acid house sounds like to me. It's all acid though! Re: [313] RE: Best price/quality record pressing plant
Archer is the best for the buck! Mike and his crew do a great job and they've pressed all our 12s with supreme quality for a domestic pressing or even any pressing. United can press 7s very cheap but doing well i wouldnt say supreme quality! (c'mon!! you're kidding right toe?) there's plenty of places in usa that do higher grade vinyl (for a lot more $). but its solid quality and great value. it's not super quiet vinyl but its not bad at all. good standard don't even want to stock them. go with archer for pressing. best prices in north america as far as I know. If anyone knows a cheaper place point it out. there are probably half-a-dozen places that are cheaper, the first that comes to mind being Acme (which is also perfectly fine as far as i have noticed/heard); there's more to weigh than price tho, like turnaround, extra vinyl services (colors etc)... jt _ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] off topic but fun nonetheless/acid
Personally I think the 303 defines the acid sound. If it was made yesterday and had nice tweaky 303 nd a nice kick I would say it was acid house I didn't like a lot of the distroted 303 stuff like drop bass/labworks I just found it took away from what the 303 sounded like Can't really get my head round records with no 303 being acid.. Huh??? Records with no 303 in are just house... Surely Ps the guy that wanted definitve acid house Go here http://www.acid-house.net got mp3's etc... RE: [313] off topic but fun nonetheless/acid
The non-303 tracks that I'd count as acid house are very rare, and I think it's only very skilled producers who turned out tracks that still somehow sound acid even though there's no 303 in there. A lot of the time, though, you do find that a 303 is present in an almost subliminal way - maybe it's playing a bass part and not being tweaked, for example. The Maurice Joshua track named below actually does have a very subtle and quiet 303 part in it (or at least the version I have does), but Music Is The Key doesn't have one at all, even though the overall feel of the track is more spikey and synthy than most house tracks of the time, with that purposefulness of melody over rhythm that you get with classic acid house. Strangely enough, whenever that track 'plays in my head' I always imagine a 303 part in it, and am surprised when I listen to it and find no 303 at all... non-303 tracks I count as acid are so few, though, that you could probably call them the exceptions that prove the rule. And I agree about the excess distortion etc on the 303 - another thing that separates acid house from more contemporary 1990s acid records is that a lot of 1990s stuff has quite monotonous, trancey patterns for the 303 rather than the out-and-out cheeky melodies used in the earlier Chicago stuff... [313] press list/Carl Craig interview
I just sent out the techno press list an hour or two ago, but received a strange 'message undeliverable' notice from my ISP, so if you previously asked for a copy but haven't yet received one, let me know off-list. I hope people find it useful. Anyone else who still wants a copy, just shout. Thanks to everyone who posted Carl Craig questions. Unfortunately, plans changed and, for various reasons (none of which were to do with Carl himself, I hasten to add), it didn't happen. D'oh! Maybe next time... Re: [313] ONE YEAR LATER
Well, the United States is now an official police state, in my opinion. I think it has had a negative impact, but indirectly. As far as specific artistic responses I haven't come across much--too some extent as an artist I'd rather avoid an issue that is so overhyped in the media, in retrospect it almost seems like a planned Made For TV event, which certainly was extremely helpful to our current political leaders. I would expect in the current climate to see some artists become more politicized out of necessity almost, although I'm not aware whether this is actually happening. /dave_ [cyborg K] Odeluga, Ken wrote: Just canvassing for some thoughts a year after that cataclysmic event ...
