I thk Donna Summer might be surprised that she's appearing at a Berlin
techno and electronica event this Saturday. So might her lawyers.

oh, i am sorry to do this, but donna summer will not be appearing at kooks
anyhow. i dont know if the real one copyrighted her name...but the one i was
talking about is a guy from brooklyn who makes noise.

dj sueme has been added to the afterparty lineup to replace him.

(313) more track IDs

2003-03-21 Thread Max Duley / ARCart
Hi all,

Thanks to all those who helped out with my last batch...in the past few
weeks I've got hold of a handful of records I've wanted for so so long,
including my holy grail, which turned out to be a Holy Ghost track.

I've uploaded a whole load more tracks, again all dating back to the early
90s. Some of the original batch are still there too as I'm still after IDs
on them.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's the link to the page:

Can anyone let me know the exact dates that the festival is running on this

I presumed it was the weekend e.g Fri/Sat/Sun but the website states it is
the Sat/
Sun Mon - can anyone clear this up for me ??

Thanks,

I'm confused. The Flash thing on http://www.demf.com/ says the 2003 DEMF
is
being produced by Derrick, Kevin and Carl. I thought they were behind
Movement, and that Pop Culture Media was retaining the DEMF name for
something
that would not be in Hart Plaza...

(313) Subject: RE: (313) Records Stores In London

2003-03-21 Thread David Hampson
Some of the staff at the Music and Video Exchange shops in London are by far
the most moody staff in the world - once one of them threw records at me and
stormed off, and another time one got really pissed off as I questioned whether
he had correctly added up a pile of records (he was right but only because
some of the prices were wrote on incoherently). If you do end up there, the
cyclist guy with the teeth is always friendly and polite, and the chef guy is
never rude.

The award for moodiest record store staff of all time goes to Kenny at Spinn
Inn in Manchester back in the late 80s, early 90s - I figured they closed down
because people couldn't take being in the presence of the moody c***!

Some of the staff at the Music and Video Exchange shops in London are by far
the most moody staff in the world - once one of them threw records at me and
stormed off, and another time one got really pissed off as I questioned
whether he had correctly added up a pile of records (he was right but only
because some of the prices were wrote on incoherently). If you do end up
there, the cyclist guy with the teeth is always friendly and polite, and the
chef guy is never rude.

The award for moodiest record store staff of all time goes to Kenny at Spinn
Inn in Manchester back in the late 80s, early 90s - I figured they closed
down because people couldn't take being in the presence of the moody c***!

I've been going down Notting Hill Gate for about 10 years as well...
Chef (I think his name is Sean 'The Knowledge' P) is certainly one of
the more polite members of staff - The guy with the teeth is ok...
however I can't comment on the rest, once I was in there one member of
staff was looking through a pile records and I noticed a couple of
original early KMS 12s, I started to enquire about them and he
instantly held them to his chest and just stared at me without saying a
thing...

Metro Area wins Best New Artist Album at The
American Dance Awards.

Just wondering - did they license this LP to another label in the States
too, or did it come out on Environ?

This classic has been repressed... Pick it up.

yes sir! I think i missed this discussion earlier but is the only track on the
repress that was on the original the 'original vocal' ?

Where did the 'megamix' come from on the repress and is it new or old? Great
stuff though.

cheers

I don't have a contact but I would be surprised if Ian has a label. He came
out here to Oz about a month ago and I asked him if he'd ever thought of
starting a label and he said no, as it's too much responsibility and he has
good deals with other labels, so there's not much point.

Well, I'm having a bad day. But it gets worse.

Re: (313) osunlade in chicago

2003-03-21 Thread Cyclone Wehner
Incidentally check out the work Osunlade has done of late with 'neo-soul'
singer Vivian Green. The song Emotional Rollercoaster is picking up play on
urban radio Stateside. Green used to sing back-up for Jill Scott. I think
Osunlade has two songs on the album. It gets a bad wrap from AMG and Amazon,
but I like the vibe, though I guess she could develop more as a songwriter.
The only pity about Emotional Rollercoaster on vinyl is that it comes with a
dance/club mix by Junior Vasquez.
Osunlade remixed a Ms Dynamite song lately too, Ms Dynamitee, I think, in
deep house style, and it's hot.
While I am at it, has anyone else heard of an RB singer Lathun from
Detroit? He did an album on Motown last year, and I remember years ago him
doing some Miami bass for Jermaine Dupri on So So Def. He has a song Didn't
I? on his album which I love.

i think it was a combination of their
$25-minimum-drink-credit-card-silliness, and a lack of promotion.
 ...
i wish i'd known about the free cover though... i'da been happy
to buy their silly credit card if i'd known it wasn't on top of some door
 charge.

yeah I read about that somewhere too ...but that card system isn't even in
effect yet (for whatever reason). I agree if they ever do that it will
definitely be a barrier for people. But so far everything there so far has
been free cover and a cash bar (no card BS).

maybe it had something to do with the st. patrick's day parade too.

Good point, lots of people had been out at bars since before noon...

 peace,
 Matt

(313) Greens Keepers

2003-03-21 Thread Cyclone Wehner
Anyone any thoughts on the Greens Keepers' LP The Ziggy Franklen Radio Show
on Classic? I like it! Some very P-funk vibes on there and, of course, the
swing house is ace. Good to hear 'deep house' music not take itself too
seriously.
Funny enough, according to GKs' James Curd, who was in Oz lately, Bruce
Willis heard Greens Keepers music at some LA gig and is now on Classic's
mailing list...

Some people can never have enough cake. About a month after releasing their

and three remixes by Stereolab, Broadcast and Carl Craig. The Sea and Cake
begin a 15-date tour on Wednesday (March 19) in Austin, Texas, which runs
 through April 25 in Washington, D.C. ...
