(313) Jeff Mills Peel Session tracks
Great to see a Dj Bone tracklist being compiled, although I don't have any additions at the moment. But since Robin brought it up I thought I'd try again with the Mills Peel Session: I don't know the trackier stuff well enough (I noticed there's loads of Mills' own tracks though, which is nice) so my contribution might be some tunes in the classics section: Jeff Mills Time Machine (Tomorrow) + Martin Luther King Rhythim is Rhythim Strings of Life (Transmat) Reese Santonio How To Play Our Music (KMS) R-Thyme R-Theme (Transmat) Inner City Good Life (KMS) Rhythim is Rhythim Move It (Transmat) Rhythim is Rhythim It Is What It Is (Transmat) ??? piano + vibes-track ??? ??? some jazzy stuff ??? ??? latin thing ??? ??? final orchestral thing ??? Thanks again Robin for recording!
RE: (313) new 3 Chairs EP.
I finally got a chance to really sit down and really listen to this 12 and it's among their best work IMHO I'm seconding Matts thoughts here. It's certainly my fave 3 chairs thing so far - and one of the best records out in a little while. (mind you, there was a shed load of good stuff last week). The main track - 'All Over' sounds like it could be on Main Street records. Deep electronic house - really nice. The first track on the flip reminds me of Theo's 'ebonics' too. Highly recommended. The main track - 'All Over' sounds like it could be on Main Street records. Deep electronic house - really nice. Yeah, it sounds to me like it could have been released on Prescription eight years ago - absolutely brilliant tracky house, can't wait to hear it on a big system! So did anyone else manage to snag the Moodymann 'private pressing' then? I managed to order one from Smallfish before they sold out and got it last Friday - it's pretty good, though not his best work ever. I've been trying to work out where the Another dream, shattered vocals are sampled from, it's definitely an old soul track I've heard Gilles Peterson play but I can't think what it is - anyone else know? Cheers, Tom

The Kooky Scientist was supposed to appear @ Tronic Treatment last night with John Acquaviva. I was supposed to pick John up in Springfield on Sunday and drive down together but my broken front axle refused to magically repair itself. Car repairs forced me to stay home. At this time it is impossible to do any gigs for free. Tronic Treatment is one of those situations where they don't have the budget to cover any transportation costs. Sad really. NYC is the center of the universe yet has no budget to support a night like that. I know that locally, the Phoenix Landing in Cambridge, MA gets a budget together for a Wednesday club. RE: (313) Atkins, Saunderson, May in URB
also could it be that many producers release infinished tracks so that the idea can be completed by the dj? justa thought. I thought exactly the same thing Robin, although I was a bit wary abt going up against the wisdom of May and Atkins - that's not meant ironically at all. I respect them and their opinions 100%, although I might disagree. That point is a difficult one. A bit of a dilemma: On the one hand part of the attraction of the music we're into *is* it's very 'imperfection' on any number of fronts, on sound quality; structurally; production. Imperfections whether intentional or unintentional can add almost a magical quality to a piece of music *heard in the right context*. The same could especially be said (imho) about Derrick May's own work - I mean basically, during the era in which he did his only non-collaborative work (no offence intended in that, it's just a fact that it was a while ago) electronic music sounded what could be called 'unfinished' or put more politely, 'minimal'. And then there is Robin's point about the sketchiness of some productions being quite necessary if the music is going to be programmed with other tracks ... However, I can definitely see the point about some things being quite patently thrown together (or seeming to be) and that point where minimal becomes just downright lazy, unimaginative, or dare I say it - a display of a *lack* of talent rather than display of talent. It would be helpful though to know what tracks May had in mind when he made that statement (but of course we never will), 'cause in the last 6 months I've heard a great deal of quality music coming from Detroit and coming from everywhere. I've heard some mediocre house, techno, broken beat, etc etc too, but not as much good stuff - which you do have to seek out if you want to overwhelm what would seem like a stream (but not a deluge) of cack - that being a crucial point! Nothing different in that today compared to ten years ago. (mho.) k

Re: (313) mills and bone tracklists
an attempt at tracklists for mills and bone radio 1 mixes have now been added to my site (thanks hansi,remco,sean,maarten...and others) http://people.man.ac.uk/~zzcgurp/extra In the Bone mix: 18. Jeff Mills - Captivater (PM-002) Must be: 18. Jeff Mills - Alarms (PM-002) But to avoid confusion with the real alarms on purpose maker 05, people call this track actually Masterpplan so it actually must be 18. Jeff Mills - Masterplan (PM-002) ;-) Cheers, Maarten
Re: (313) mills and bone tracklists
14. Robert hood on minimal nation (?) Must be: 14. Robert Hood - Museum (M-plant 015) Cheers, Maarten

(313) shattered dreams
My copy should be shipped next week... But I now discovered a ? track from a theo parrish mix cd with the vocal shattered in it and with MM´s voice in it... (laughing and talking, like he always is). Is it the same track? This is around 100bpm and ultra deep! I really like this track man!! I would play this nite and day, nite and day (gil scott-heron). Enlighten me Tom or Paul. It´s 37:15 far in his eclectic aesthetic part 1 mix. Theo also did an untitled track in the same mix, wich is very deep and very loud on the bass sometimes. BAMBAM BM! A kick sounds twice as hard when it´s done properly at 100bpm Cheers, Maarten my musical interests http://www.morthenkiang.com/
RE: (313) Movement sched. Blactronica?
either way...this is very dissappointing considering we (blaktroniks) have been releasing music and touring worldwide since 1997...all attempts to make friendly contact has been ignored

Paxahau had an event there not too long ago (Times Square Detroit). It's normally one of those places where you have to lay down a credit card to get a reserve booth, etc. They usually don't play proper techno (that I know of). Re: (313) techno-house recommendations?
great suggestion, I'm not so much into the tech-house/ micro-house genre anymore but compilations are more bang for your buck. on 5/19/03 6:38 PM, Benn Glazier at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: On Mon, 19 May 2003 10:28:46 -0500, spw [EMAIL PROTECTED] said: What your inquiring about seems pretty subjective and broad, sounds like your into the German tech house/ micro house sound like on Playhouse (check out Rework)/ Klang/ Ladomat, ect... go to the Hardwax record store web site http://www.hardwax.com/ and browse through their catalog. Check out the Inhouse - Modern House Sounds From Deepest Germany compilations. There's been 3 so far, with tracks by Rework, Steve Bug, Vincenzo, Lowtec and others, these are a great starter to that german deep tech/house sound.

Re: (313) Atkins, Saunderson, May in URB
First of all the original quote was not unfinished tracks that's someone else's interpretation. A finished track is what sounds complete to you, whether it be DJ Tools oriented music, minimalism, or more traditional song structure music. on 5/20/03 9:19 AM, Odeluga, Ken at [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: also could it be that many producers release infinished tracks so that the idea can be completed by the dj? justa thought. (mho.) k
