Everyone enjoyed hearing the old hip-hop. I think you have to take into account the context. I think as techno fans/followers/purists/etc you have to take into account that you're a minority at the festival. How many people there have any Axis records at home? He's playing to a large number of people in the main arena who have no idea what 'techno' is. They may be kids who listen to 50 Cent in their rides, rave to Tiesto, or their parents and came out of curiousity, or people who know The Wizard, not Jeff Mills. That's not a good or bad thing, it's just the reality. It's a challenge. Of course it's going to be an 'intro to Jeff Mills 2003' of sorts. You're just hearing one side of Jeff Mills, and if you go to Sonar, say, you'll hear another side and another side again in a club. I think his approach was perfect. I know it's not the best thing to go into a performance hoping for something, but I was hoping he'd play a wicked, bangin' set and he didn't. RE: (313) amp fiddler on Still Music
Speaking of Amp Fiddler keep your eyes peeled for an upcoming release on new label run out of Chicago called STILL MUSIC. The debut will be a cool deep house affiar called The Sugar EP by jazzy French house guys Patchworks, and features an Amp Fiddler remix of the title track! Really nice if you like that whole deep detroit house sound, but the production is a bit cleaner and has a more overt use of jazz instruments and sounds. A class production that will appeal to fans of deeper house like kdj, harmonie park, elevate, deepside / st. germain, glasgow underground, neroli, etc. Peace, Matt MacQueen

(313) speaking of shake - new Frictional EP
Speaking of Shake... Check out his excellent new Convalesce EP on Frictional. A 2-tracker with a long gorgeous track on both sides: - Lay Back (in the Cut) is a smoother instrumental electronic instrumental hip-hop tempo affair.. if you remember his OUTSTANDING contribution to the 11 Phases compilation on Sublime a few years back, this is in a similar mood/style... contemplative, deep and gorgeous. - ...Like A Dream (soundhack mix). Originally this track came out on his awesome Songs for my Mother EP on Frictional. The Soundhack remix tightens it up a notch to creates a funky, jerkey, slighty more uptempo feeling techno soul gem... that plugs along and begs to be mixed with techno, house or broken up choppy stuff. Really nice! I love the original too but let me say this version is a lot easier to slip in and out of a hotmix. :) Peace, Matt MacQueen

Cool soundhack |-Original Message- |From: Matthew MacQueen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] |Sent: 10 June 2003 17:47 |To: 313@hyperreal.org |Cc: Sam Karmel |Subject: (313) speaking of shake - new Frictional EP | | |Speaking of Shake... | |Check out his excellent new Convalesce EP on Frictional. A |2-tracker with a long gorgeous track on both sides: | |- Lay Back (in the Cut) is a smoother instrumental |electronic instrumental hip-hop tempo affair.. if you remember |his OUTSTANDING contribution to the 11 Phases compilation on |Sublime a few years back, this is in a similar mood/style... |contemplative, deep and gorgeous. | |- ...Like A Dream (soundhack mix). Originally this track |came out on his awesome Songs for my Mother EP on Frictional. |The Soundhack remix tightens it up a notch to creates a funky, |jerkey, slighty more uptempo feeling techno soul gem... that |plugs along and begs to be mixed with techno, house or broken |up choppy stuff. Really nice! I love the original too but let |me say this version is a lot easier to slip in and out of a hotmix. :) | |Peace, |Matt MacQueen |
Re: (313) amp fiddler/Shooter
I think you mean Straight No Chaser and they have it upstairs at Prairie Lights... it's a great jazz-oriented magazine. Get a copy and read it and then I'll loan you my jazz vinyl to check out ;-) On Tue, 10 Jun 2003, ryan burns wrote: can anyone tell where in the US i can find a copy of Strait No Shooter magazine??? is the interview with Amp Fiddler good? is the magazine worth the $ ryan burns
