(313) elevator

2003-08-08 Thread Philip McGarva

Subject: Re: (313) kraftwerk interview

What would come out if they were trapped in an elevator with George
Clinton? ;)

don't we already know this ? someone asked george this question last
time he was here in australia. he said that he'd f*** them in the ass (
i am sure he said 'ass' spelled that way ) the roots of techno etc etc.

was listening to my ole purposemaker comp last nite. Jeff was definitely
onto something with those tracks. they are very funky abstract, deep
too. Interesting to hear tracks like 'casa' and 'the dancer' where the
kick is surprisingly low in the mix and the groovy loops percussion
are the main elements. kinda like it's upside down or something. very
techno. I have managed to avoid being exposed to much in the way of
looped bangers but if these PM tracks are what started that trend, boy
did they get it wrong.

I so agree! Nobody has really done the same as Jeff, he's always that little
bit funkier, grungier, groovier. Nobody gets close to him. I heard that his
setup is really basic, and this is meant to contribute to the lo-fi edge he
gets on his productions. Maybe other folks know some more about this? It
just goes to show, it's not about equipment, just imagination.

any ideas? c'mon you old-school house heads!

My wife's mother (a retired elementary school music teacher) used to use it

our knowledge and was bought by another company who then offered to

There are a lot of back room changes going on at the shop so the

there will be a new holding page up soon followed by a new and much

2003-08-08 Thread Redmond, Ja'Maul
It's all b.s to me, if vinyl is dead, why are we currently living in an
oversaturated market of vinyl records being produced.? Everyone and
there momma wants to do vinyl and even the mainstream cats are getting back
into the market by getting remixes done on vinyl.

But I will say one thing about something that came up earlier.

THE COST!!!
Have dub plate manufactures addressed the extremely high cost of getting a
plate done. Are they even concern that MAYBE , just MAYBE the younger
generation of d.j.s may abandon them for c.d. or final scratch of whatever
for the simple reason that they can't afford to spend $1000 + dollars on
every release?

Not necessarily an viewpoint, but just a thought on my part.

Have dub plate manufactures addressed the extremely high cost of getting a
plate done.

Plates cost about £25. They don't last that long I suppose, and I guess a
CD-R is cheaper.
Plus you get to beat the queue at the cutting room on Friday afternoon...

Found on the debut LP (self titled) along with Genius of Love. I think this

is still in print. Essential for the period.
My wife's mother (a retired elementary school music teacher) used to use it

in class. Educational and funky.

Hello, y'all.

I was listening to WDTR's house show this afternoon on my way

Maybe try RocketScience Media, or EPM.

or there's Mingo (Is it Mingo??) in Glasgow...

not too sure exactly what services they offer, but worth trying..

Tom Magic Feet might know a few more? Emma Warren/Joanne Wain used to have
a good agency...

Yeah. Try Electronic PM. Nick Craddock does a lot of their PR, especially
for [313]-related stuff, is a great guy, ex-[313er], very good writer and
has impecable taste. Can't really go wrong. They do have a booking side I
believe, but AFAIK the two are not *necesarilly* intertwined. Not sure if
that meets your criteria or not.

Pavel Kostiuk = Dego :)

As Goya put it: Yeah Yeah - that's right - Dego's only gone and done it
again... Darkside instrumentals here from Dego as the Pavel Kostiuk album
finally hits the Goya warehouse floor - available from the end of this
month. Limited to just over one thousand copies - this album is
one-off-press, pure bad-guy, pure Dego...
