Re: (313) Vote Detroit In DJ Mag Poll 2003
I guess that's why so many Americans don't vote and they end up with... no mind. ;) Too many people feel like that and we get Tiesto. I guess I abstained from a recent Australian poll for similiar reasons but see it as an act of subversion. I think it's misleading to be so suspicious of 'fashion', all the music we love was at one stage 'fashion', techno, house, even UR, if it endures, that's the point. Fashion is part of a cycle of change - and evolution - in the arts and maybe your ambivalence is the heightened capitalism surrounding it that exploits it. I think people dismiss 'fashion' without thinking (I have done so myself). We can make fashion. -- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Cyclone Wehner [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: (313) Vote Detroit In DJ Mag Poll 2003 Date: Tue, 16 Sep 2003 1:04 AM Why? (313) selling some equipment
I figured I'd post the information here before I submitted it to ebay, because if this could benefit 313-based music, that would be great, as well as taking the hassle out of dealing with ebay. Anyway, on with the wares: I have for sale, both of which are in perfect condition, a korg er-1 rhythm synthesizer an electrix mofx effects processor The drum machine includes the original manual, original power supply, original box, etc. It is in perfect mechanical condition, and the only physical flaws are a couple of extremely minor scratches on the LCD display, in no way whatsoever affecting the working of the display, or the readability of the display. I am asking $200 for the unit, which seems like a very good deal to me. The electrix mofx effects processor includes the original manual, box, and power cable, I will also be providing 4 BALANCED mono 1/4 cables in case it is to be used in an effects loop on a stereo send/receive loop of a mixer, as well as a midi adapter. The unit includes distortion, flange, tremelo, and delay, and is chainable and may trigger other units via midi instructions. The unit is in perfect working condition, as well as perfect physical condition. Th well, which also seems like a good deal to me. Basically, I'm poor!tes will be lower than international rates, but I will ship it anywhere in the world. I apologize, I don't own a digital camera, so I cannot offer pictures of my units, but korgs website provides info on the er-1, and electrix's website provides info on the mofx. If no 313er's are interested, I'll throw them on ebay, but I figure this saves time, and effort on both of our behalves. Sorry for long post, I hope I have sparked interest in somebody though! -Andy

Hi, Vince Watson alias V Phorms has a new 12 out on native recordings and it sounds very much like an early Stasis/Redcell/As One record. At least, the first track does.. I didn´t hear the other tracks yet Here is a sample from juno.co.uk: http://217.158.65.110/MP3/SF126910.mp3 Maybe a bit too short to judge wether it´s good enough to purchase.. but the sample sounds real good to my ears. Re: (313) charts/recommendations
Well I'm not really being objective here... But these are some stunning promotional copies I've just been checking for radio Audio Nongrata. V/a - Electron Music EP (Iridite) * Another marvelous deep Detroit inspired EP with Marco Bernardi, Rei Loci, Methodology and Tha Poke. Metro-Police - Transit cop (Plant) * Vocalist for Electronome turns up with a brilliant minimal Electro soulfunk six tracker themesongs. Iken - Image of a drawn sword (Real Soon) * Another bomb releases following up this label's debut release Futher Details, which is on a simular frequency of producers alike Moodymann, Theo Parrish and Larry Heard! Ultramarine - Carl Craig remixes (Real Soon) * Don't we all love this legendary remix by Carl Craig?! Includes two previously unreleased remixes, surfaced from the archives... The Andies vs Izu - Split EP (Stuff) * Already enough said on the Stuff #1 EP, here's the next... Imo a brilliant 15 minute lasting deep, deep Electro track by The Andies, never chancing it's original theme, but chancing styles... stunning! I'm sure these releases will receive heavy rotation online by me! Dr. Nutcracker Three of my favourites this year: Jackson- Utopia (Sound of Barclay) This is where Autechre would have ended up if they hadn't disapeared up their own digital asses. Truly inspiring. I:Cube- 3 (Versatile) Mindblowing, genre hopping class. Production is top quality- even feature RZA!!! DJ3000- Stand (mo-tech) Powerfull, lo-fi and simplistic- works with almost any track in a mix and yet can stand on its own (ho ho). Capitol A : Serve It Up! (Brooks remix) - Mantis I reviewed a bunch of these in the new lot up on Bleep. Anyone else? Had a listen to the new John Arnold featuring Amp Fiddler last night. Sounds sick! The Titonton and Tejada Tom mentioned sounded wicked, and there are some new Pal Joey reissues floating about. The new Brooks, Chateau Flight (surprised this hasn't been mentioned here yet with the very Detroit sound it has), Beatdown remixes and yet another Brooks remix of Willis all sound tasty from the clips I've heard. I expect these will fill my October list. Oh, and I heard today that I:Cube has a new album '3' due on Versatile next month. He's also playing Plastic People. w00t! I will be with Louis Osbourne and I think he is one of Ozzy Osbournes sons, but I am not sure? Yep. I don't think his dad gets it though. He sticks pretty close to his Brummie roots but from memory lives in the US with a GF.

(313) recordindustry vs. file-sharing
some of you might find this an interesting read, considering the RIAA debate of last week: here's a link to an article in 'wired', explaining how major recordlabels use file-sharing programs to determine the popularity of songs/artists. and adjust their promotion strategies accordingly. http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/11.10/fileshare_pr.html jurren _ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
Re: (313) v phorms
and take a listen to this track, it is from ben sims under his new OZY alias. Maarten I'm almost certain that Ben Sims and Ozy are 2 entirely different people. While Ben does run the Native Sampler label, Ozy is just an artist featured on his label. Ozy has done some work in the past with Force Inc. (Tokei is the name of the album. Brilliant stuff if you're into minimal techno). -Ryan --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Re: (313) v phorms
http://www.thulemusik.com/ Ozy bio For the last 8 years dj-ing and producing electronic music has been Ornolfur Thorlacius' number one priority. Ornolfur first made his mark on the music scene by releasing the first Icelandic drum and bass record in 1997, under the name Hugh Jazz. However his attention could not be captured by one genre alone. His interest in minimal techno materialized in his Ozzy alias, under which he released among the first ventures of acclaimed Icelandic minimal tec label, Thule Records. In 1999 Ornolfur embarked upon a breakbeat adventure under the moniker Early Groovers recording his first LP, Happy New Ear. Fine reviews followed in the musical press around the world, as well as the album was extensively praised locally and reached nr. 7 on the Icelandic national newspaper chart the same year. As a result of favorable reviews and open arms of the public, Ornolfur put together concerts with various musical styles, showcasing his diverse musical talent. These shows included 6-deck dj-sets and jazzy breakbeat concerts, with live session players. In 2000 Ozzy became Ozy as he began shaping his musical style, now emphasizing on experimenting with minimal tec and deep lounge music. His main objective, to twist and bend sound to incorporate new and fresh aspects to his tracks. Hence constantly seeking new sounds and ideas, mostly from old records, films and A.M. radio. Influenced by retro car-safety info-mercials and 70?s wildlife documentaries, Ozy?s fruity offbeat swing and extraordinary rhythm structures are the heart and soul of his compositions. To keep things interesting, Ozy often fuses various elements from other genres of music into his tracks (such as drum bass), making use of his diverse production experience. Using stereo microphones he records sounds from everyday life, creating depth and flavor in his detailed work. Not only is OZY releasing high quality tec music on Thule Records but also on legendary German label Force Inc. and Ben Sims? ultra smooth Native label. Ozy?s bi-polar taste in music is also featured in his performances, either playing live ?robotic lounge funk? or tearing up the floor with svelte minimal tec, keeping the audience on their toes. Having played in global hot-spots Australia, France, Germany, Norway and the UK (with upcoming performances in USA, Spain and Italy to name a few), Ozy represents the nu-breed of fine electronic music coming out of Iceland. The confusion lies in the fact that Sims has released some Ozy material on his label. jeff
