Despite record sales being on a decline across the board, there is honestly no shortage of really excellent music out there - an oversaturation, really. It's just that we're bombarded by so much that unless you're a trainspotter or a DJ, the casual listener is lost in the deluge or confused by all the hair-splitting specialist subgenres. (313) OT -- anyone see Lightning Bolt in Detroit?
Still reeling a bit from seeing Lightning Bolt last night -- anyone catch them in Detroit? 9/26? If you haven't seen them, it's a guitar + drum duo that sets up with 5 4x10 cabinets for the bass. They general don't use the house PA or play on the stage; they like being surrounded by people. The closest thing I've heard to what they do is the John Coltrane/Rashied Ali duets - hyper-fast, pummeling drums with giant wall of noise guitar. Very abstract, punishingly loud, and irresistable. http://www.loadrecords.com/bands/bolt.html

(313) Italian house I found
thanks to everyone for giving me some info on Italian house/disco this is what I found (and bought) last night: Progetto Tribale - Volume 1 (Underground Music Movement) - a few cuts on here really work well mixed with Detroit techno tracks - some cool house tracks on it as well X-Static - I'm Standing (also on UMM) - don't recall if it's the original release or the re-mix release - one side is full on vocal Italian house (and rather dated but could work depending on your taste in house) - other side is more aggressive with nice menacing Reese bass and dubbed out ecstatic vocal bits, more my thing I also got one more on UMM but the title and artist allude me right now other things I picked up Primary Sequence - Compufunk (Alien Funk Movement) - add another one to my collection of this techfunk label Walt Dave - Depth EP 1 (Vigilante records) - awesome blue vinyl from Walter Jones and Dave Peoples - pressing or mastering is a bit weird in the spatial qualities of the music (some things seem to be hard panned to one side or the other) - really raw techno house that sounds like a real party - wicked stuff all this for $14.00 and it's all new unused records! I agree that is is a bit dated - probably the most dated out of the three UMM 12s that I bought but for $1.99 - eh, why not? anyway, it still sounds good in the mix - not much of a believer in sell by dates when it comes to music played to death - yes sell by - no MEK Sakari Karipuro [EMAIL PROTECTED]To: 313 313@hyperreal.org iposti.net cc: Subject: Re: (313) Italian house I found 10/02/03 02:16 PM [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote on Thu, 2 Oct 2003 about following: X-Static - I'm Standing (also on UMM) - don't recall if it's the original This was licensed to Positiva, i remember playing 'heavy organ mix' quite a lot. (313) Parisean Alert!
Out now: Pepe Bradock Michelle Weeks : Distorted Echoes : KIF Snagged it as soon as I saw it this afternoon and just got a chance to check the audio now. BIG garagy vocal tune in the full mix (probably too big for some), and a tasty dub on the flip (tames the vocal enough for most, I bet). Think I'll really grow to love this one. Also the new John Arnold album just hit the shelves. What I've heard so far sounds great. I should clarify that my whinge was not so much aimed at the non-devotees, as those who claim that there aren't any good records coming out, or just generally complain about things being in a slump. These are folks who have the same passion as you and I, but seemingly have let their noses lift a bit from the ground. I'm even finding a fairly sizeable chunk of good techno coming out at the moment. It's about time! :) I guess I was just ranting from the perspective that people who want to buy good music should have no problem finding it, even if the concentrated output isn't in the same areas it was 3 or 4 years ago. Thank God, I say! Things are changing in new releases and I for one have benefitted in a huge diversification in taste as a result. Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED]

(313) Best trades or offers..
Hey all, Just wondering what everyone's best record trades, or offers have been. I've been slowly entering my collection into Discogs.com and everyonce in a while I will get an email asking me if I'd be willing to trade. I haven't done it yet since I have only one copy of just about everything in my collection. But today I received an email from someone offering me three new records from his store (it's been mentioned on here before so I am pretty sure it's legit) in exchange for my copy of Daniel Wangs Mechanical Birds EP. I had to say no, because like I said I only have the one copy. But it was pretty tempting. -- -Sam
