(313) pete tong
after the blinding Send night last friday, I caught 15 mins of pete tong at turnmills and thought that after all the discussion about him playing techno tunes, ppl might be interested in what he was playing. when I came in he was playing one of the star tracks tunes by technasia, not sure that I knew the names of any of the other tunes, but I was actually quite impressed - the tunes were all soild loop based techno tunes very similar to the kind you might hear at a richie hawtin, dave clarke or trevor rockliffe night. When I danced past the dj booth I saw him and someone else in there, barely moving at all, and his mixing was very safe and without risks and his eq'ing was of the 4 bars with no bass, then press the kill switch again type, very uninspiring, but so far as I could tell the crowd was loving it, all the podium dancer wannabes and posturing ben sherman blokes seemed happy and everyone was dancing. so although I don't see pete tong as having any insight into techno at all, he was making the crowd, who most likely were waving their arms about to 10 minute long euphoric trance and hard house breakdowns last year, move to half decent techno tunes. doesn't compare to the send night tho! that rocked!! :) matt . When we left he was playing Deep Burnt! something odd is afoot. so, the big question is, what were you all doing at Turnmills anyway? : ) _ - End of message text This e-mail is sent by the above named in their individual, non-business capacity and is not on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers. The Outlet Collective night (Shawn Rudiman Arne Weinberg - both of whom were excellent as were Stuart and Ryan, I missed Matt Chester) was held at the adjoining Juno Rooms. You could go through Turnmills to get out - luckily I found another route which avoided Mr Tong!! Re: (313) pete tong / send party
aha! I see so how was the party with arne weinberg and shawn rudiman? did they play live or dj? - It was very cool in the end - we had a few glitches with the system at the beginning (as usual :-( ), but it all smoothed out - Arne was DJing and Shawn played live, both excellent of course! It's pretty scary what Shawn is capable of live, every time I see him he just keeps getting better... Will be putting the sets and some pics up very shortly... _ - End of message text This e-mail is sent by the above named in their individual, non-business capacity and is not on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers. (313) Cabaret Voltaire remixes?
found essentially an entire collection of their records this weekend and I was wondering if any tracks by them have undergone the remix treatment by any Detroit artists - did Kevin Saunderson, for example, ever get a chance to touch their tracks? also in the bag was 23 Skidoo, The Normal, and Morton Subotnick - so, yeah, I had a nice weekend. Derrick May remixed Keep On in the early nineties (as did Paul Oakenfold :) which wasn't really their best track imho. It would be interesting to hear remixes of some of their stuff, like Sensoria for instance, but on the other hand those tracks are fine as they are. (313) New Mix Available from threeonethree.com
For Immediate Release: Now available from threeonethree.com Jason Patrack The Steamy Affair Mix 128K .mp3 - Available for both download and stream Jason Patrack began DJing in early 1999 at the age of 17. The first real form of electronic music that I was introduced to was Chicago house, by some friends from school that had been into the music scene for a few years. Shortly after Jason began DJing, he discovered Detroit techno and immediately fell in love. From that point on, techno has been the main style of music that he plays. After crafting his DJing style, Jason began playing at some Detroit area clubs and parties in 2001. Some of the places Jason has played include One-X (Detroit), Nova Afterlounge (Pontiac), The Heidelberg (Ann Arbor), Level Lounge (Chicago), the Metro Times booth at Detroits 2003 Movement festival, and many underground and loft parties by 315 Productions. Jason brings a quick finesse style of mixing to his sets-- he defines his sound as being a mixture of different styles of techno: When I'm playing, I like to mix up some harder stuff, some electro, some harder minimal, and some deeper more melodic Detroit type techno-- to take people on a bit of a musical journey of sorts too many techno DJs these days just bang it as hard as they can at the same intensity level their whole set. I find that to be very uninteresting-- I like to bring people up, down, and back up again. Some of Jason's techno influences include Richard Hawtin, Robert Hood, Derrick May, and the Advent. Other musical influences range from Prince to Nine Inch Nails to classic Motown. Currently, Jason is learning the production side of the business.
