detroit's 'finest' had to shut both the party *and* afterparty. both
times during dan bell's sets. nothing pains me more than seeing a cop
in the booth, killing the sound for the night.

i'll leave the proper reviews to the tehcno heads. but i will say that
dan bell never disappoints, and i enjoyed hearing some loud techno in a
sweatbox with all of the usual suspects.

electronic music in detroit. it must be, because when the last party

The *Johansen* got busted?! I don't believe that's happened before,
at least I never heard of it, and they have events all the time.
A real shame -- the people running the gallery are cool and keep
things well organized.

I suppose from the cops point of view they can't tell whether a
party is full of playaz or the people are cool. On the other hand,
they don't usually make much of an effort to find out.

Been at many a busted event in my day. It's hard to believe this

Now, the women was screamin' and jumpin' and yellin',

And way up above all the noise they made,
Somebody hollered, Better get out of here; this is a raid!
Now, I didn't know we was breakin' the law,
But somebody reached up and hit me on the jaw,
They had us blocked off from the front and the back,
And they was puttin' 'em in the wagon like potatoes in a sack.

You never seen such scufflin' and shufflin' till the break of dawn!
It was rockin'! It was rockin'!
You never seen such scufflin' and shufflin' till the break of dawn!

I knew I could get away if I had a chance,
But I was shakin' like I had the St. Vitus dance,
Now, I tried to crawl under a bathtub,
When the policeman said, Where you goin' there, bub?
Now, they got us out of there like a house on fire,
Put us all in that Black Maria,
Now, they might have missed a pitiful few,
But they got both me and my buddy, too!

We headed for jail in a dazed condition,
  They booked each one of us on suspicion;
My chick came down and went for my bail,
And finally got me out of that rotten jail.
Now, if you ever want to get a fist in your eye,

(313) Kevin Saunderson in Sydney

I know this isn't the right place for this, but I'm hoping I'll be
forgiven this once, because its such short notice.

There's 10 double passes being given away to see Kevin Saunderson in
Sydney this Saturday. The details are at http://www.sydneyskyline.net

Sydney Skyline is a new techno and electro website, very grassroots and
very focused on its niche. Theres not too many members right now, so if
you're in Sydney and you want to see Saunderson, then definitely enter
because you're chances of getting a double pass are pretty damn high.

Thanks,

speaking of 'commercial techno', I caught a different version of the
controversial Hummer advert yesterday. the visuals were identical, but some
bad alt-rock-type cut had replaced LFO's 'Freak'. perhaps GM's ad team
reasoned that most members of the 'target audience' that cut appeals to don't
have 50 grand to burn on a vehicle -- and if they did, it's not likely to be
spent on a hulking, ozone-destroying monstrosity of an SUV.

(313) Australian 313 Dates

2004-09-27 Thread Cyclone Wehner
I've been a bit slack on posting Australian Detroit dates of late, but
everyone in Sydney should be sure to catch Fabrice Lig in Sydney this
weekend. He played an excellent live set at Honkytonks last Friday.

This Friday Kevin Saunderson plays a second date in Melbourne at the HiFi
Bar (he played the jiggy OneLove on Saturday). He is supported by the group
Phunk De Sonique who are really good. See www.inthemix.com.au for an
interview with them.
If anyone wants the full press release, please e-mail me.

Incidentally that Inner City white label currently circulating is a song
Kevin played on his last Australian tour this time last year. I think I
posted that it was called Say A Prayer, but it's actual title is Say
Something. He is testing the response before going for a possible full
release. But there is no new Inner City album at this stage since he feels
that the market is in such a strange state.

I also hear that Movement is once again up for grabs due to some loophole in
the contract and that the situation is likely to be resolved in coming
weeks.

You have a point about LFO's appeal, of course.

not only do sydneysiders have fabrice lig on friday but only recently
booked, kevin saunderson @ bohem this saturday!!

this may be a pertinent time to mention the creation of a new sydney
tech music website: www.sydneyskyline.net
only a couple of weeks old, the site is designed specifically to
develop the community of techno and electro lovers in sydney and
beyond. featuring: event news, interviews, forums, photos, top fives of
local djs and a sounds page where local producers and djs can post
their material.

we also just happen to be giving away 10 double passes to kevin
saunderson @ bohem!!!

details on the main page of the site.

AFAIK, that song was mislabeled, and the one you think is beautiful is
actually called Infoworld. At least, it was called Infoworld back in 1999
when mp3.com and Transmat teamed up to do a tour and release a compilation.

(you're talking about B1 on Ocean to Ocean, right?)

(313) Las Vegas

2004-09-27 Thread Jeff Braziunas
What are the hot nights and locations for techno/trance in Vegas? The websites for the various clubs have proven quite useless. Also, is there any specific time of year which is better than others (or a specific weekend, say, in the next 6 months). Thanks all. Get ready for school! Re: (313) the wanderer

2004-09-27 Thread alex . bond
Aha!

But is he talking of the track that was mis-labelled, or the other track
that was mis-labelled?
Or the mislabelled, mislabel, mispressed off centre on the B that should
have been the A?
Or should all that side really have been the other side? Was Derrick really
called Derrick?
He could have been Juan, or just plain old Terry.
Was the Electrifying Mojo the man who invented the infamous penny chew?

We'll never know.

which song comes most close in beautiness to model 500's wanderer?

How about Model 500 The Martian Search Your Feelings or Strand De
Grand Act, kinda similar?

If you're talking about the track that is labelled Infoworld on Biorhythms
2, but is supposed to be the Wanderer.

Alex

(313) Deep Space Radio - Track ID

2004-09-27 Thread SST
At approximately 65 minutes into the Part C mix for Deep
Space Radio 11.06.94 (hosted at emotionelectric.com), there
is a track with a sample of the woman DJ from the movie The
Warriors giving a speech at the end of the movie.

She says something about Hey big boppers the earlier
announcement was wrong, all wrong. Sorry to the group trying
to get home. I guess all we can do is play you a song Then a
sick minimal tune comes in.

If anyone knows the name of this track it would be much
appreciated.

Thanks!
