this is definately true. the one time theo played for me, we had to actually buy some crappy mixer on ebay that he insisted on using. he later bitche about the sound system, which at the time pissed me off, but whatever, it's cool. i'd rather work with an artist and try to do something different and special than just have some jack-off show up 5 minutes before their set and rail the levels on some standard pioneer mix. Also re: sound quality -- I know Theo brings sometimes crappy mixers and isolators to DJ gigs to kind of rough up the sound a bit, make it raw.. so there's a method to his madness, but I realize it's not for everybody.. like the kickdrums just get destroyed into a punchy blob. I have an iRIVER i-HP140 which is a 40Gb mp3/wav/wma/ogg jukebox which can record in wav or mp3 from optical / analog inputs I've already used it to record a couple of my mates sets. Thanks everyone. Ok. To summarize (in case anyone else had the same question) two recorders kept coming up. They are the H-140 by iRiver and the Gmini 220 by Archos. I still want to do a bit more research but I'm now leaning toward the iRiver because a LOT of people seem to have it and I've only gotten one mixed review about it.
