Re: (313) morgan geist interview
any record i've never heard before is new to me. i'm always discovering new sounds and new artists - i've recently discovered patrick adams and peter brown. it may not be new to a lot of people, but it sure as hell is to me and i'm loving the stuff. and anyway, what's so new about the latest release on poker flat or king st, or moods and grooves or by rob hood? i've already got a couple of thousand house and techno records. it's not like there's that much differnce between them. if a track makes my heart sing and makes me wish i was on a dance floor moving my arse then i buy it, regardless of what year it was made. james www.jbucknell.com [EMAIL PROTECTED] com To 24/11/04 09:35 AM 313@hyperreal.org cc Subject Re: (313) morgan geist interview >my favourite quote: >Is your record collection disproportionately vintage? >I don’t buy any new shit. hey jb thanks for the tips...those OV's are sh_t-hot, i ugreee!! on my short list of things to buy asap.. back when the list was all buzzing about the matthew jonson on minus, i was comparing it to that MF mix of critical phase. similar bass sound, tense pads/strings...but so much more satisfying overall. so raw, full of development/changes, crazy percussion...and of course the processed "phase" vocal flying around...wild. jt -Original Message- From: Jason Brunton <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Sent: Nov 24, 2004 1:07 PM To: 313 <313@hyperreal.org> Subject: (313) Kenny Larkin What's the thoughts on Kenny's new 12- I've been listening to it for a couple of days- one side has a kind of homage to James Brown/JB's- Funky Good Time- excellent stuff. Thanks everyone. Ok. To summarize (in case anyone else had the same question) two recorders kept coming up. They are the H-140 by iRiver and the Gmini 220 by Archos. I still want to do a bit more research but I'm now leaning toward the iRiver because a LOT of people seem to have it and I've only gotten one mixed review about it. Re: (313) The Hacker
~ Flesh and bone feat. Perspects : Could be classified in the so called "electroclash" category... with screaming rocky synths. Its not bad, but not my dope. ~ Sequenced life : good old machine track. I-F could like it. ~ Masterplan feat Miss Kittin : What you can expect from their collaboration, close to their last album, but not similar, its got this album atmosphere. ~ Village of damned : a bit too dark for me, well actually the title is meaningful. will the teenagers manage to get out the horrible situation ? ~ Electronic snowflakes : pretty interlude for christmas evening. nose pressed against the window, seeking santa through snowflakes. with a melancholy feeling, as if he wouldnt come this year :°( ~ Traces feat. Mount Sims : the 80's song. nice kraftwerk inspired. the girl's voice reminds me a fisherspooner song. maybe i shouldnt say that...people will throw rocks at me! outch!! ok i didnt anything. ~ Its in the minds : With The Hacker's kind of pad. I like the beat drum. definitively a Goodlife label track. ~ Radiation : the single! dopplereffekt kickin electro. tsheeck! tsheeck! ~ The brutalist : the rave track. my little favorite...well, just cause of the acid line, i cant help. its dark, but this acid touch with echo make it enjoyable. It can works fine on the dancefloor. ~ Sleeping machines : rather 'WARP'esque, boards of canada like. Perfect for the end. Oh god. Why do I feel this is going to backfire on me big time? He just said "I don't buy any new records at the minute" or something, and I just thought that was a kinda funny lil comment! So, I just thought I'd poke a lil fun and say "what, not even yours Morgan?" in a kinda joking way. I take your point and that, but I reckon it was just an off the cuff remark - didn't sound like a tirade against modern music to me. *he says, waiting for Morgan to appear shortly* I'm off, before I get myself in any more mither. totally agree with you, alex. there's always good music, each era has it. e.g. metro area in our days, rite? :) morgan geist's position just reminds me of herbert and his dogma. maybe you just can't stand electronic, sampling music after producing it for so many years, you get tired of it. nevertheless, it's completely backward and i guess morgan knows it: "But I disappoint myself in a way because I feel like I’m getting old or something." give the man some new and fresh records... :) c.
