I've had loads of mail to me including 42 x 313 posts bounced so it may have been answered several times already 2. this mail may try to reach the list 10 times. If it does I'll pull the network cable and hope this sorts it as I think it's the interaction of PC and server rather than server alone that's the ***k up. That might just be me though, I've always thought of him as a techno producer who dabbled in DnB. Yes, but before just about every DnB producer? I mean I know that style had been round for a long time but people consider Goldie's / Roni Size's etc. LP as watersheds but wasn't Black Secret Technology more ahead of the game?

(313) Matthew Herbert's 'Plat Du Jour' 'Nuit Electronik'
MATTHEW HERBERT'S PLAT DU JOUR NUIT ELECTRONIK (REMINDERJust thought i'd forward this along. Looks like an exciting weekend in Montreal coming up! Has anyone witnessed or heard about this performance before? What's it like? Cheers! G == +++ MUTEK_NEWS : February 2005 / REMINDER +++ == * MATTHEW HERBERT'S PLAT DU JOUR EGG FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 25 ** NUIT ELECTRONIK - NEW LOCATION: FONDERIE DARLING SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 26 == == == MATTHEW HERBERT'S PLAT DU JOUR EGG FRIDAY FEBRUARY 25, 2005, 8PM Spectrum de Montréal 318 Sainte-Catherine Street West == After London, Paris and Istanbul, MUTEK and the MONTREAL HIGHLIGHTS festivals are thrilled to present the North American debut of PLAT DU JOUR, the most recent project from British artist MATTHEW HERBERT. A completely original sonic and visual experience which shines the spotlight on our peculiar relationship with food, PLAT DU JOUR is the product of almost three years of dedicated research. Moreover, it showcases the artist's mature interpretation of the questionable nutritional habits that have become embedded in our everyday dietary lifestyles. Reflecting his true orchestral interests as an artist, Herbert enlists a supporting cast of musicians as well as a chef to aid in his dynamic quest to break the mold of uninspired, generic cuisine. Through his exploration of the various sounds provoked by a menu of edible fare and sonically juggling their live samples, Herbert tactfully denounces abuses within the food industry and the practice of genetic modification with emphasis on the negative consumption habits evident among today's consumers. The audience will witness a veritable culinary creation-complete with a symphony of aromas to match! To round out the evening's menu, Montreal duo EGG will offer us SCRAMBLED EGG - a performance specially conceived for the occasion. EGG intends to implement a new formula by exposing their exquisite creations to a series of guest instrumentalists and electronic musicians: NICOLAS BOUCHER (keyboards, sampler), JOSEPH MARCHAND (guitars), PATRICK WATSON (voice), STEVE BEAUPRE (laptop) and DAVID FAFARD (laptop). This month's BETA-LAB will feature: Heart Soul - Live - esoterik NAW V.S. Anton - live - antontrax.com/noisefactoryrecords.com Bopp - laptop DJ - bopp.ca for more info visit: www.phoniq.net PRESS RELEASE The PHONIQ collective brings you another twist on another year of electronic music showcases. This time around PHONIQ is happy to present BETA-LAB a monthly showcase of electronic music collaberation and experimentation. BETA-LAB will focus on teaming up resident PHONIQ artists with other members of the canadian electronic music community. BETA-LAB is a space for experimentation to try out new ideas, for artists to try out new ideas, projects, collaberations. a testing ground for laptop artists, hardware musicians, djs and video artists a like. every month a different project or projects will be presented. each of these events are designed to act as an exploration into the different intersections between technology and music/art making. BETA-LAB is not designed to feature one artist in particular but to act more as an equal testing ground for all, for both the performer and the audience member. the BETA-LAB series is about an ever changing creative process, each months event details will be announced at www.phoniq.net BIOS/INFO PHONIQ www.phoniq.net phoniq is a collective of individuals dedicated to promoting bleeding edge electronic music/art in interesting variable environments, with an emphasis on exposing aural and visual talent that has not yet been exposed to the electronic arts communities of montreal and canada. we aim to showcase upstart music producers, djs, and emerging visual artists all working in electronic realms. our foremost goal is to showcase off the wall and raw genres of music and visual electronic arts- not just those that are currently en vogue or will be shortly. the concept for phoniq came together through the chance meeting of 2 active members of the montreal/canadian electronic music and digital arts community: ckut-fm dj/host cyan and dub glitch techno producer naw. phoniq has grown out of the combined histories of these 2 individuals. naw brings the clonk legacy that he created 6 years ago in toronto, which hosted such artists as: monolake, kit clayton and sutekh. cyan brings her ongoing involvement in community radio, event coordinating and dj talents. since then the collective has grown to include 5 core members responsible for keeping things running. after 6 short months, phoniq has grown from an idea of how can we create a viable promotional vehicle for canadian electronic artists, into a music series, a net-label, an active community mailing-list and a canadian electronic music resource. HEART SOUL Humanity receives hundreds of cosmic signals on a daily basis. Of course, all the tracks on their 4 rare-as-hen's-teeth cassettes from '81 could be considered new to the public at large (I couldn't even find 'em back in the day, in '82). In fact, I think that's what you must be referring to: http://www.minimal-elektronik.de/english/tips.htm ``Liaisons Dangereuses'' plan to re-release the 4 tapes of their forerunner project CHBB as a box together with a CD soon. http://irdial.com/blogger/archive/2004_10_31_blarchive.html While Liaisons Dangereuses' debut album recently saw a re-release through Hit-Thing, also the CHBB material is expected to be released soon on CD. CHBB was Chrislo Haas and Beate Bartel (founding member of Einstürzende Neubauten and of Mania D.), which later turned to be Liaisons Dangereuses. In 1981 they released a series of 4 C-10 tapes, in an edition of 50 pieces only, which are highly sought after nowadays. (313) 7 centre holes - straw poll
I prefer the small holes like the UR 7's. The new Burial Mix 7's are really super tight on the stock Technics 45 adapter. Re: (313) 7 centre holes - straw poll
personally i really don't like 7, 10 either but i should go for the small holes as too many turntables (when playing out) are missing the hole adapters

Re: (313) 7 centre holes - straw poll
from a DJing perspective - small hole. Less fooling around with the adaptor and if you don't have one then you can still play the record. also I think it makes the record more durable and less likely to crack in two the large hole 7 records I think are cool if you're going for a nostalgia thing (if you're pressing up soul/funk music) MEK Paul Hammond [EMAIL PROTECTED] t To 313@hyperreal.org 02/22/05 03:08 PM cc Subject (313) 7 centre holes - straw poll Can I conduct a straw poll please?: Small or large centre holes in 7 singles - what's your preference? Now if only someone would re-release their Factory/Ikon video on DVD ... Yes indeed! this one I did know about. infact, i even bought one off someone on musicstack, only to wait three months for it, for the guy to say he couldn't find it : ( this was quite a while ago though. do you know of anywhere it might be available? surely someone must have copied it maybe? oh, and thanks for the links greg. hmm. i should be working. alex _ - End of message text This e-mail is sent by the above named in their individual, non-business capacity and is not on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP. (313) NYC electronic shops
Can anyone recommend any good shops selling techno and/or electronica in NYC? My mate's living out there at the moment and is in urgent need of some vinyl therapy. Sonic Groove is shut now, right? Any suggestion gratefully received. Dan.
