You're right on Timbaland and his comments (some don't accept that he is ignorant, however, just pretending not to have heard any electronic music), but Chad of the Neptunes is v familiar with electronic music - his roots lie in that scene as much as hip-hop. He played in a proto rave outfit years back. He went to college with Bryan Zentz and is on his last Intec album playing sax. He's also v familiar with Detroit techno and can name names. > At 03:07 PM 5/11/2005, Klaas-Jan Jongsma wrote: >>You should have actually visited the site, this song was not produced >>by The Neptunes > > Timbaland is not part of the Neptunes, but both are passe this week, so > it's probably someone new. Don't give up yet - Pharrell is working on a solo album and probably saving his best beats for that. I think Timbaland was never the same after the passing of his muse, Aaliyah. I would recommend you guys check out Ultimate Aaliyah, a new comp which shows how their work stands the test of time. It's worth it to get the lesser known song I Am Music - v When Doves Cry. Interestingly Missy Elliott has cut a song with the Neptunes on her new album Cook Book. At the moment Kanye is the defining R&B producer, with Rich Harrison pretty hot. Harrison comes out of the DC go-go scene and has produced the current hit I Thing for Amerie and also did Crazy In Love for Beyonce. Also Richard X has done great future R&B/hip-hop for Annie, MIA and that dude from Organized Konfusion whose name is escaping me this sec. ;)

RE: (313) Cybotron - Clear
I wasn't trying to imply that Juan and Rick are suing anyone. My thought was fairly incomplete now that I've re-read my post. Let me fill in the blanks: If Missy and company had cleared the sample, then no worries there; someone got paid, just don't know if it would be Juan and Rick or not. If the sample has not been cleared (you'd be suprised how often this happens these days), then there would most likely be some form of litigation to get payment on it's useage. If it goes to court and the plaintiff named is "Cybotron", then Rick and Juan will have to come together as Cybotron in order to file a lawsuit. This is exactly what happened when Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam was sued by Main Source over her uncleared sample of Main Source's "Looking At the Front Door". The group had broken up prior to the lawsuit, but had to come together as Main Source in order to file suit. Hope that clarifies my thoughts. -Original Message- From: Matt MacQueen [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, May 11, 2005 1:03 PM To: 313 Cc: George Jones IV - Logic7 Subject: Re: (313) Cybotron - Clear On May 11, 2005, at 2:42 PM, George Jones IV - Logic7 wrote: > This might be something I watch a bit closely since Rick Davis still > uses > the Cybotron name. I personally think there's every reason to think whoever wrote & performed the original will have some rights to some portion of profits made on the Missy track. So much in new hip-hop and R&B is based on samples of obviously recognizable songs, thus the booming cottage industry of entertainment lawyers drafting up contracts based on acceptable use and drawing up terms of contracts in various ways to pay the original artists/labels. (313) James Pennington, DJ Dex, Archetype this Friday in NYC
Friday May 13 ***THE BUNKER*** James Pennington aka Suburban Knight (Underground Resistance | Detroit) DJ Dex (Underground Resistance | NYC) Archetype (Black Nation, Ongaku, Theory | Columbus, OH) When we got an email from DJ Dex of Underground Resistance a while back saying that UR wanted to do some shows in New York at the Bunker, we thought it might be someone playing a joke on us. Well, it was no joke, and tonight will be the first of hopefully many UR nights at the Bunker. Do we really need to introduce James Pennington to you? He is a true Detroit techno legend with many classic (and we mean CLASSIC!) tracks under his belt. He was part of Inner City's huge techno hits, "Big Fun" and "Good Life". He wrote and produced "The Art of Stalking", which is one of the greatest techno tracks ever. James has strict quality control and doesn't release records or DJ out very often, so we are beyond psyched to have him play with us. DJ Dex is part of the new generation of UR producers and DJs. He has done a ton of work for UR over the past few years: mixing, editing, producing, DJing, web building, accounting, you name it. Dude is frikkin ridiculous behind the decks, and his records have been well received around the world. This is his debut NYC appearance. Archetype has produced everything from drum'n'bass to downtempo to experimental techno. After his last (way too short) set at the Bunker, we were blown away and told him "we have no idea what genre any of those records fit into, but they were all amazing", to which he replied "that's the point!". right ... duh.
