The result !

You was a lot to tune in during the week end, THANKS !
During 48 hours, never any moments without listenners !!

I'd like to say a special thanks to peoples who have forwarded
the news on various forums... Really kind !

And of course thanks to Frequency Berlin providing their server
during 48 hours... Also to Techno Tourist and John who was coming
on Sunday afternoon offering a nice radio time, pro and deeply Detroit !

Due to the relative success of this 48 hours week end, I'm already
at work on some special programs and hope some of you will tune in regularly.

Don't hesitate to contact me if you play/produce music and want to
have some material played on Teknology.
Please, be patient for reply ;-)

Clear was originally released on Fantasy like most of the other Cybotron

I have no idea how the rights are split between Atkins, Davies and Fantasy.

No. It was released on Fantasy Records. Quite big label on rock/jazz..
I have no idea how the rights are split between Atkins, Davies and
Fantasy.

This might be something I watch a bit closely since Rick Davis still uses
the Cybotron name. Could there be a lawsuit filed to draw the two back
together as Cybotron? Something similar happened when Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam
sampled a Main Source tune and the group had to come together again in order
to file a lawsuit.

(313) James Pennington, DJ Dex, Archetype this Friday in NYC

2005-05-11 Thread Bryan Kasenic
Friday May 13

***THE BUNKER***

James Pennington aka Suburban Knight (Underground Resistance | Detroit)
DJ Dex (Underground Resistance | NYC)
Archetype (Black Nation, Ongaku, Theory | Columbus, OH)

When we got an email from DJ Dex of Underground Resistance
a while back saying that UR wanted to do some shows in New
York at the Bunker, we thought it might be someone playing
a joke on us. Well, it was no joke, and tonight will be the
first of hopefully many UR nights at the Bunker.

Do we really need to introduce James Pennington to you? He
is a true Detroit techno legend with many classic (and we
mean CLASSIC!) tracks under his belt. He was part of Inner
City's huge techno hits, Big Fun and Good Life. He
wrote and produced The Art of Stalking, which is one of
the greatest techno tracks ever. James has strict quality
control and doesn't release records or DJ out very often,
so we are beyond psyched to have him play with us.

DJ Dex is part of the new generation of UR producers and
DJs. He has done a ton of work for UR over the past few
years: mixing, editing, producing, DJing, web building,
accounting, you name it. Dude is frikkin ridiculous behind
the decks, and his records have been well received around
the world. This is his debut NYC appearance.

Archetype has produced everything from drum'n'bass to
downtempo to experimental techno. After his last (way too
short) set at the Bunker, we were blown away and told him
we have no idea what genre any of those records fit into,
but they were all amazing, to which he replied that's the
point!. right ... duh. Tonight he is busting out a very
rare live set!

What lawsuit? people, people.. all this wild-eyed speculation of
lawsuits... who said Missy Co. used it without negotiating rights to
use? Unless somebody knows for sure, there's no need to speculate ill
will that someone was ripped off here (well, ripped off monetarily,
ha). Rather than invent drama why don't we just wait for some news, if
there even is any, that something here is rotten.

I personally think there's every reason to think whoever wrote
performed the original will have some rights to some portion of profits
made on the Missy track. Missy is a HUGE artist on a major label where
sample clearance has been paramount for well over a decade on releases
like this. It's not some shady white label bass record of 700 copies.

At labels that size there are small armies of folks whose sole job it
is just negotiating sample usage rights for artists who use such huge
chunks of landmark tracks. So much in new hip-hop and RB is based on
samples of obviously recognizable songs, thus the booming cottage
industry of entertainment lawyers drafting up contracts based on
acceptable use and drawing up terms of contracts in various ways to pay
the original artists/labels. Of course there are exceptions but this
is pretty obvious territory. It's not like a subtle snippet of Clear
was used... the backing track *IS* Clear!

Something similar happened when Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam
sampled a Main Source tune and the group had to come together again in
order

to file a lawsuit.

Let's hope all this lawsuit talk is unnecessary... jeez.

but in classic daley style- he illegally bulldozed the airport, then gave
the contract to his croonies to build... a park.

yeah- he's shiesty, but the guy bulldozes an airport the only serviced a
few rich dudes and is replacing it with a park. hard to get angry.

as for stuff like summer dance, i'm sure it's a great time, but it's also
another step in the neutering of dance music. what once went down in crazy
all night clubs now has to happen in the sunlight.
